    Default Dead Pool

This is a thread title I copied from another message board. It is meant to be respectful of those we knew or admired and want the other participants to be aware of the passing of that individual.

I'll start off with yet another TV icon from my youth who just passed away.

    Don Adams.

Aside from giving us classic lines ("sorry about that chief"), I had no idea till today that Don served in the USMC and survived the Battle of Guadacanal.

It gets even more amazing then that...

In Guadalcanal he survived the deadly blackwater fever and was returned to the States to become a drill instructor, acquiring the clipped delivery that served him well as a comedian.

Can you imagine the guys in the 60s trying to tell there twelve year olds that Maxwell Smart had been there Marine Corps drill instructor!!!!

Amazing how many of the "greatest generation" where quiet about their service.

When I was in The Corps, there was always a rumor running around that he was a DI, but it was difficult to confirm.

We just wondered what type of DI he was considering what they could do to you badk in 1943 - 1945 time frame.

Today Don Adams. Last week it was Bob Denver.

The celebs of our youth (at least mine anyway) are starting to pass away.

I never missed an episode of "Get Smart". Don Adams was brilliant. I put him in the same comedic class as Soupy Sales and Ernie Kovacs.
And don't forget; he was also the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo. A very cool cartoon.
Hope there's a Get Smart marathon on TV Land this weekend.

Okay,so how many comedians today can make you split a gut laughing and not use a cuss word every few seconds or talk about things that most folks just don't want to know about?
I like a good comedian who can cuss and make you laugh but the better ones do it without the profanity.

Of course, Smart's most famous catch phrase was "would you believe..."
Honest to God, when I heard Al Michaels utter those famous words during the USA/USSR hockey game at the '84 Olympics, what came to my mind was Maxwell Smart.
    Would you believe in miracles?

I wonder if Adams picked up the 'missed him by that much' line on Guadacanal?

Tim Wilson is one of the funniest comedians I've heard in years. He mixes political comment, history and redneck into his music and not only makes you laugh,he makes you think when you stop and really listen.
He's not one that totally avoids cuss words but he doesn't go out of his way to use them either.

    RIP Don Adams.

Ok, let's see just how old a few of you are. Remember Red Skelton. He was one of my favorites and one classy individual. I just wish I bought some of his clown prints years ago.
