*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON, ENGLAND

FRIDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

Thornton Heath – man rescued

A man was rescued from a flat on Dunheved Road West in Thornton Heath last night. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus found the man lying on the landing of the second floor flat and assisted him to safety via an internal staircase. A neighbour was alerted to the fire by hearing a smoke alarm which had been fitted in the building and called the Brigade. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Brigade was called at 1920 and the fire was under control by 1953. Crews from Norbury and Croydon fire stations attended the incident.

Hammersmith – six people rescued
Over twenty firefighters fought a blaze at a third floor flat on Fulham Palace Road in Hammersmith last night. Three men, two women and a child were assisted from the property via an internal staircase. All but one man were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is being investigated, but is not thought to be suspicious. Sub Officer Peter Fitch who attended the incident said: “The property had not been fitted with a smoke alarm, which would have alerted the occupiers of the flat to the fire much sooner. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus managed to stop the fire from spreading to other flats, but this could have been a much more serious incident. Smoke alarms are inexpensive and easy to install.” The Brigade was called at 2121 and the fire was under control by 2235. Crews from Hammersmith, Fulham and Kensington attended the incident.

Plumstead – flat fire
Fire crews were called to blaze in a ground floor flat on Throwley Close in Plumstead last night. Three adults and a child managed to get out of the property before the Brigade arrived and were treated by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. A communal stairway was heavily smoke logged during the incident and firefighters wore breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading to other flats. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Brigade was called at 2206 and the fire was under control by 2242. Crews from Plumpstead fire station attended the incident.
