Does anybody know where you can get inexensive software that will simulate a fire like MXInferno. I dont see why this program is $500. This is a great learning tool for size up.

There really aren't too many (if any) inexpensive programs that will give you the quality of MXInferno or Digitial Combustion. I have searched extensively and the two programs mentioned above were the best in terms of quality and price. While the cost of MXInferno is $500, it also requires FlashMX which is an additional $250-$500. That makes Digital Combustion a better value. Typically with most software you get what you pay for, and officer or scenario based training can be invaluable with these programs. With some knowledge of Flash you could probably create your own flames and scenarios, but this would require prior expirience or knowledge. Good Luck.
More info on Digital Combustion can be found here: http://www.digitalcombustion.com/

This is better than inexpensive.... its FREE and its good.
I use it for all my training. Allows you to import photos of buildings in your response area, etc to train and preplan. I also use it for post incident critiques by trying to recreate what the incident was if possible.
Helps if I add the link... sorry!!

Thanks for the link, FFTrainer... Last time I checked the ESIS website was down and their software was unavailable... The software looks very similar to Digital Combustion, so it will be interesting to compare the two first hand. Thanks, again.

Yes, bigfire8, I do!! FETN (Fire and Emergency Training Network) is launching a brand new fully interactive fire simulator that runs on any PC and allows the firefighter to experience a number of different fire scenarios. The new program is called Everybody Goes Home, and each scenario takes the firefighter from the station to the scene and challenges him to make crucial fireground decisions that only a trained firefighter will know how to make. He will be forced to consider search and rescue, apparatus placement, water supply, exposures, ventilation, fire attack, additional resources, and much more throughout the course of each incident. At the end of the scenario, a post-mortem will appear that will detail all of the benchmarks he should have met, those that he completed successfully, and those that he missed.
This exciting new training tool is completely interactive and will allow the firefighter to kill himself and his virtual crew if good fireground tactics and decisions are not followed.
The cost of the initial disc is only $50 and includes scenarios on flashover, backdraft, extensive pre-arrival burning, rapid fire extension, and interior vs. exterior attack decisions. Quarterly updates will be available that will include new scenarios such as wildland fires, high rise, hazmat, technical rescue, extrication, and railroad emergencies, just to name a few. Each quarterly update will sell for only $25 each.
Just call me at 800-845-2443 ext.5334 and I will be happy to place an order for you.

Do you have a website associated with this software? I'd be interested in seeing some screen shots and looking at the features. I'd also be interested if it was available to demo first. Hearing about these features over the phone wont work.
