*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE

On Friday, October 7, 2005 at 2:18 A.M. (PDT) twenty companies of Firefighters, three Rescue Ambulances, one Squad, Rehab Utility Trailer, four Battalion Chief Officer Command teams, and one Division Chief Officer Command team, under the direction of Battalion Chief Dennis Waters responded to a reported structure fire. Arriving companies were confronted with a two-story four-plex with attached garages in the rear. The garages were extensively involved with fire and the fire had extended into the second floor and attic of the four-plex. Firefighters began attacking the fire in the four-plex as other Firefighters provided exposure protection for a four–story apartment on the North side and a one-story building on the West side. The fire was controlled in only fifty-five minutes. The structure received extensive water damage to the first floor despite salvage efforts. The loss is estimated at $750,000 structure and $250,000 contents. There were no injuries reported. Nine civilian occupants were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

FRIDAY 7 OCTOBER

Brockley - cylinder fire

Six fire engines and around thirty firefighters tackled a blaze in a range of shops, houses and workshops on Brockley Road in Brockley this morning. A workshop was completely gutted and half of the ground floor of a nearby house was damaged by fire. Seven gas cylinders were confirmed at the scene and a 200 metre exclusion zone was put in place as a precautionary measure because some cylinders can explode when heated. Six people were evacuated using an aerial ladder platform and 25 were evacuated from surrounding houses by the Brigade and police. The Brigade was called at 0244 and the fire was under control by 0845. Firefighters from Lewisham, Old Kent Road, Forest Hill and Greenwich fire stations attended.

Southgate – cylinder fire
Fire crews were called to a flat fire in Lakeside Road, Southgate last night. Three fire engines and around fifteen firefighters tackled the blaze which damaged most of the first floor flat. A man left the building before firefighters arrived. One propane cylinder was confirmed at the scene. Fire crews issued a 50 metre exclusion zone as a precaution and the Brigade stopped people from entering the area. The cylinder was cooled and removed. The Brigade was called at 1938 and the fire was under control by 2114. Firefighters from Southgate and Edmonton fire station attended the incident.
