WEDNESDAY 12 OCTOBER

Hainault – house fire

Firefighters were called to a fire in a house on Manford Way in Hainault yesterday afternoon. The blaze damaged part of the kitchen and is believed to have been caused by a chip pan. An older woman left the house of two floors before the Brigade arrived. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance crews. No smoke alarms were found inside the house. Working smoke alarms give an early warning of fire and help give time which can save lives and prevent injury. The London Fire Brigade carries out home fire safety checks and will fit a free smoke alarm where needed. To make an appointment or for more information call freephone 0800 0 24 48 24. The Brigade was called at 1722 and the fire was under control by 1735. Fire crews from Hainault and Ilford fire stations attended.

Muswell Hill – flat fire
Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters tackled a blaze in a four roomed flat on Cromwell Road, Muswell Hill last night. The fire started in the living room and most of the flat on the second floor has been damaged by the blaze. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus evacuated people from second floor via an internal staircase. The Brigade was called at 1928 and the fire was under control by 2036. Firefighters from Finchley and Hornsey fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
