- Raymond - NH - on the Green - Dwelling destroyed by fire - Probable work of arsonist

1927c - Epping - NH - Motor Vehicle Accident - Car vs train - 1 fatality

1961 - Boston - MA - 84 Mass Ave - Block long WGBH radio and TV complex destroyed by fire

1973 - Chelsea - MA - Conflagration - Observed as far as 50 miles - Flames blown forward by fierce winds, jumped quickly from building to building. hundreds of homeless took refuge at the Chelsea National Guard Armory, the fire had leveled a fifth of the city. It was the third worst fire in Greater Boston history, taking 2,000 firefighters from as far away as Manchester, New Hampshire, almost a week to extinguish completely.

1999 - Ashland - MA - 2nd Alarm - 232 Main St - House well involved

2000 - Fairhaven - VT - MVA - US Rte 4 near Exit 4 and New York state border - Gasoline Tanker rollover


Notable incidents beyond New England

1898
- Dawson - Yukon Territory Canada - Fire started by a dance hall girl who had left a candle burning on a block of wood. Flames consumed two hotels, the post office and most of Front Street. In all, 26 buildings were destroyed - This same girl was responsible for a major fire in Dawson on Nov 25, 1897

PRESS RELEASE


The Western Historical Manuscript Collection at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is sponsoring an exhibit of photographs by photographer David J. Dubowski. The exhibit entitled FIRE IN THE LENS is in the WHMC gallery on the second floor of the Thomas Jefferson Library on the campus of the University of Missouri St. Louis. Mr. Dubowski is a Fireman and his work reflects his profession. The photographs will be on exhibit from through Monday October 31.
