    Default PT Test

My department is starting a PSD team and we need some information on what type of physical testing we need to do prior to acceptance on the team.

I am asking anyone with current PT test in place if they could provide me with some direction it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Our entry test is:

    1) 400m swim in under 12 min.
    2) 3 min water tread w/o hands
    3) 20m underwater swim
    4) 20 min survival float

I didn't come up with it so please no comments

Our entry acceptance test is a 300yd swim followed by a 10 minute tread. Once through the certification the requirement to be on the team is based off of the NFPA 1006 Watermanship test. It is as follows:

    Annual Watermanship Evaluation

    Annual Watermanship Evaluation Parameters

There are four exercises that evaluate stamina and comfort level in the water, each rated by points. The diver must successfully complete all stations and score a minimum of 12 points to pass the test.

Stamina Exercise 1: 500 yd Swim

The diver will swim 500 yds. without stopping using a forward stroke and without using any swim aids such as dive mask, swim goggles, fins, snorkel, or flotation devise. Stopping or standing up in the shallow end of the pool at any time during the test will constitute a failure of this evaluation station.

    Time To Complete Points Awarded

    Under 10 minutes 5
    10-13 minutes 4
    13-16 minutes 3
    16-19 minutes 2
    More than 19 minutes 1
    Stopped or incomplete 0

Stamina Exercise 2: 15 Minute Tread

Using no swim aids and wearing only a swimsuit, the diver will stay afloat by treading water, drown proofing, bobbing, or floating for 15 minutes, with hands out of the water for the last 2 minutes.

    Performance Criteria Points Awarded

    Performed Satisfactorily 5
Stayed afloat, hands not out of the water 2min 4
Used side or bottom for support at any time 3
Used side or bottom for support > twice Incomplete

Stamina Exercise 3: 800 yd Snorkel Swim

Using a dive mask, fins, snorkel, and swimsuit (no BCD or other flotation aid) and swimming the entire time with the face in the water, the diver will swim nonstop for 800 yds. The diver must not use arms to swim at any time.

    Performance Criteria Points Awarded

    Under 15 minutes 5
    15-17 minutes 4
    17-19 minutes 3
    19-21 minutes 2
    More than 21 minutes 1
    Stopped at any time Incomplete

Stamina Exercise 4: 100 yd Inert Diver Rescue Tow

Wearing full SCUBA Equipment, and breathing air, the diver will push or pull an inert diver wearing dive gear on the surface a distance of 100 yds. nonstop without assistance.

    Performance Criteria Points Awarded

    Under 2 minutes 5
    2-3 minutes 4
    3-4 minutes 3
    4-5 minutes 2
    More than 5 minutes 1
    Stopped at any time Incomplete

    Hope this helps

We had a hell of a time getting an annual test started, currently the standard is simple
    100 yard swim
    5 min tread
remove and demonstrate the ability to clear your AGA
While it is very simple we had to start somewhere, hopefully it will get harder in the not to distant future.
