(KUTV) WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah Several residents had to be quickly evacuated from a burning townhouse in West Valley City.

The West Valley Fire Department responded to the burning complex of six townhouses early Sunday morning. When firefighters arrived on scene, a second alarm was quickly issued. Both Unified Fire Authority and South Salt Lake Fire Department responded to the scene.

Officials say the fire started in the middle townhouse, and quickly spread to several other units. Residents had little time to evacuate.

Three of the units were completely destroyed. Damage was estimated at between $300,000 to $500,000.

One police officer was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
