I am a die-hard Rangers fan (Potvin sucks). But, regardless of what team you root for, I truly believe that the rule changes have made the game 100% better to watch. No clutching and grabbing, no trap, 1/2 ice passes for breakaways, goalies int he net, one line change per whistle, they are all great.

Also, has anyone noticed a distinct lack of fighting this year? That is also a great thing.

    Default My team sucks

All I have seen is the continuation of the downward spiral by the once proud Chicago Blackhawks. Come on baseball.

I watched my flames lose in a shoot-out last night to Columbus...

Very exciting. Kept everyone in their seats until the last goal was scored. I'd have preffered a Flames win, but at least they got a point out of it.

I did almost choke when I had to pay $7.00 for a beer. The tickets were free, so I guess its not so bad.

    Go Flames!

    Talking new rules

who likes the new rules of the game? their ok, you just don't see as much hitting. and the goalies should be able to play the puck in the restricted area (used to play goalie so that's why i say this) the game is better though i think. eliminating ties are good. even the shootouts are good. Oli Jokinen of the dallas stars is 8 for 8 in the SO's. dallas: best road team, 1st in there division, 3rd overall, 2nd in western conference. they are on the way to the stanley cup. Go stars!

    Me.

The best part is that I can watch a whole game and still catch the 9:40 PM NJ Transit Mid Town Express.

Die Hard Islander fan (4 In a row) I agree with George about how the game has improved.

    I agree with George too.

I can't believe I said that but I have to say that for once George and I are on in agreement on a sports issue.

On a different note, at looks like our Toronto Blues Jays are trying to compete with the Yankees, Mets and Red Sox in the "cheque book" recruiting business, very sad.....Oh the humanity!

I guess it's like politics, eventually they all become crooks.

In the Hockey Hall of Fame, right next to Ron "Smurf" Duguay and Barry "Stone Face" Beck. Oooooop’s, NOT. Damn Clark Gillies kicked both of their asses.

that's what my parents say about Marty Turco goalie for the stars. they only say that because he is one of the rare aggresive goalies. he likes to play the puck alot. i don't see anything wrong with that. look at his stats. there exceptional. about the potvin (i assume felix potvin) thing, i think he was better in LA than with the isle's. all these goalies are going back to there original teams too. Chris osgood with detroit, last time i checked Curtis joseph in St. Louis.... the list goes on. what about the olypmics? who you going for? I go with the US. There pretty good. Great roster this year. veterans, but alot of younger players. i think they may bring home the gold

No George is refering to Denis Potvin, brother of Jean Potvin, both played defence for the Islanders.

Oh man, now you're starting with the memories. Wasn't Gilles the fag with the beard?

Duquay? Remember how he, Espo, Hedberg and (I think) Greschner embarrased themselves with the Sasson jean commercial?

How about Bill Chadwick's Alzheimer laced "Shoot the puck, Barry! Shoot the puck!"

I truthfully don't remember Gilles kicking their asses. Nystrom or Howatt, maybe. (Gary Howatt runs a mini-golf/driving range/par 3 about five minutes from my house).

    Potvin sucks.

You have to understand how hated he is in the Garden. The last game I was at, the first chant of "Potvin sucks" came less than one minute into the game.

It wasn't an Islander game and he wasn't there.

" Oh man, now you're starting with the memories. Wasn't Gilles the fag with the beard?" I don't think Dave Schultz felt that way.

OK. It's April. Rangers are in first place in the Division. Rangers clinched a play off spot for the first time since 1997. Jagr leads the league in scoring.

I must've entered the Twilight Zone.

Going to the Banknorth Garden for the Bruins/Rangers game on Sat. Leaving the Rangers jersey home.

    Default Hockey is addicting

I come from the era of the Big Bad Bruins with Phil Esposito and Derek Sanderson, and my Blackhawks with Bobby Hull and Keith Magnusson but kind of got away from things since I didn't have a franchise in my area.

This past fall my 7 year old grandson went from learning and drills to having a few games in his program. I turned into a fricking lunatic, going through tons of camera and video batteries. I keep quiet during the games per my daughters orders, but I totally friggin love watching him play and live for each game. And I was even thrilled when his first decent shot on goal was a whiff. Like his dad, he is migrating towards playing goalie, I might try to convince him to stay on the lines or defense. It's just alot of fun.

    Banknorth Garden, Boston, MA....

What a great arena! Sight lines are fantastic, creature comforts are many. People were nice. What a good time.

    Funny story.

If there were 15,000 people there, there were 5,000 Rangers fans. They were very vocal, including the Potvin sucks thing. Bruins fans sisn't like it,but tolerated it...almost.

OT. Rangers score 50 seconds in. Clean goal. Many cheers, "Let's Go Rangers!". Then.....20 seconds later....YANKEES SUCK! YANKEES SUCK!

    Unbelievable.
