We work 3 shifts 24 on/ 48 off. Work 4 shifts get 1 shift off( Daley day aka Kelly day) Each Firefighter is given 3 17 day Furlough's (vacation) from day 1. Get 1 extra shift off after 25 years of service. NO SICK DAYS NO PERSONAL DAYS
I attached a calendar if it helps explain it better
They will give you 1 shift off per month from time you are hired. So guys in academy now will be given 9 days off for 2009.

JohnnyMo,
I think I get it, seems pretty straight forward. However, I didn't see your attachment, or either, I don't know how to open your attachment.
Thanks,

CFD Calendar
The file was too large for the forums. If you go to
http://www.iaff-local2.org
On the left select Items of Interest
Scroll 3/4 down and you will see 2008 Calendar
Hope that helps

Tuition Reimbursement
I know that tuition reimbursement is a benefit offered by CFD. Does anyone know if there are restrictions, i.e. undergrad only, only degrees related to fire safety, caps on amount of tuition?
Thanks,

As of this time, no restrictions. Only limits are massage school and culinary are not covered. They will cover undergrad and grad as well. Limit of two classes per term though. Only CFD, CPD, and nurses union are unlimited. All other city departments are limited to 3K per year.
Always hearing that they are going to try to pull this, which makes sense during a time of financial hardship.

Thanks for the post ChiTown, very much appreciated. There goes my dreams of opening my Meatball Massage parlor. Wait, that doesn't sound as good when I type it. Maybe my Oiled Loins stand. No, that's not much better either

How's the academy going? And seriously, thanks for the info.
Take Care,
