The city has never made an eligibility list. No person who took the test will ever know where they stand relative to another applicant. They choose a random method, call the appropriate numbers for instance, 1-200. you take a physical agility, background, medical, jump thru some paper work hoops, and then you are hired. There is no such thing as you are #1, beeballs is #2, and anthony t is #3, based on cumulative scores, or any such thing. The current "random" method is the same that they used for the 95 test, and the 85 test. The only difference is that this time all passing applicants fall into one group. In 95, applicants scoring above 89 were deemed well qualified and hired first. If I remember correctly this accounted for about 2000 people, and took about 5 years to get through. There are still plenty of people who passed the 95 test and still never got hired. Best of luck to everyone putting in the effort, but hedge your bets. keep testing.

You will know where you stand. If your # 10 and your not eliminated from any process then your at least #10 maybe even #1 if 1-9 where excused. When i say elgibilty list I'm not saying you will ever see it. But the dept will have a list of people still in the running. This process could start next week, and they would not hire anyone till next year in feb. theirs still another class starting the academy in nov. hence an elgibility list.

    Default Cfd test

I heard the nov. academy class was not going to happen. That was from an upper ranking CFD Officer. They are looking to start hiring of the new list. Nov academy would been off the 95 list.

I have friends high up in the Bears organization. They gave each of the Bears a 9th grade pass/fail written test. They randomly chose who plays out of all those that passed. Robbie Gould will be starting QB. Grossman will be middle linebacker, and Lovie will be kicking the field goals himself. There is a lot of criticism of the process, but the Bears are still favored by 11.

Guys, I think the SS# myth has been dispelled a few pages ago. Its rather simple to have a database assign random numbers.

They did go by the last digit of the SS#. Starting with 9 then wrapping around 0,1,2... since there are 10 possible digits, and 18,000 passing applicants, each number should have approx 1,800 people assigned to it. I know several people ending in 9 who are below 100. Mine ends in 9 and I'm in the 350's.

See the article on the front page of firehouse.com??? Its prety bad when even the minority city leaders see how f'ed up this process is. I would love to see them go by score, b/c i gaurentee I wouldnt be in the 17,000 somthin anymore...Ive taken the harder version of this test and scored in the upper 90's, and then go to this kindergarten entrance test and I "Pass"...and am given that bull$**** #. whatever...

Are we certain that they are starting at #1 and working their way down? Or has this not been confirmed through reliable sources?

I would expect that to be the method unless something drastic changes things. Assigning random list numbers by use of SSN's is a recognized (by the Supreme Court) way of doing things. It would be senseless to hold another random process to call up people through the academy.
