Well the lawsuit class is to begin the 16th of this month this is right off the site for the 95 group. So hopefully we get hired shortly after that. Who knows, I'm praying hard that I/we get on soon.

Is there a contingency plan in case the 111 members of the geriatric entitlement class all break their hips the first day?

Or is the city just gonna give the twenty years of disability pay and call it even?

    They won't get 20 yrs pay...only 16.
Seriously though, from what I've heard from guys I know on the job, half of this class is only going though the academy so the dept can triage them and find a "light duty" job for them. If one or two of them does hurt themselves in someway, they'll most likely sit at a desk answering phones or something like that for the next few years.

These jamokes are going into a **** storm no matter where they end up. I foresee more lawsuits in the future about harassment.
That's what I think is one of the main reason's Hoff left, he didn't want to have to deal with all the BS in the coming future.

The thing we need to find out is what the instructors were told as far as how many classes they will have. I have a feeling it will be one and done.

read in Sun Times it happened 80 started Friday 31 next week after paperwork clears. At 36 years 2 months myself wondering if there is going to be a new pension system for new hires? I would like to know what I'm getting into wish I could go back in time and say yes 4 years ago but now that I'm on deck I'm conflicted. Anyone else in this situation? I wish they only gave you one decline it gives you time to think which is not good for a guy like me.

Big country there already is a new pension tier for new hires it passed january of last year. Most likely they will go after current members pensions for benefits going forward this year. It still is a nice plan just costs more and or you receive less. Some one of your age range may have to consider this a factor for sure.good luck hope this helps

    This is all public information:
    http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs...eqEnd=61700000

Basically, new hires have to stay until they reach 55 instead of 50 and the final salary is taken from the best 8 years of the last 10 years instead of 4. The COLA is 1/2 the Urban COLA instead of a flat 1.5% after you turn 60 years old. If you come on at 37 years old it really doesn't matter all that much for the pension since you have to stay until 57 to get a 50% pension. The pension contribution is still 9.125% for everyone.

I'm in the same boat as you bigcountry. Will be 37 by the end of June and for some silly reason, I still hold on to a glimmer of hope I'll make it on the job. Not really sure why though.
I'm wondering what iknownothing means by "If you come on at 37 years old it really doesn't matter all that much for the pension since you have to stay until 57 to get a 50% pension"
If I was to walk on the job at 37, I wouldn't get even 50% pension?
I wouldn't be relying on hat as my sole retirement fund anyway, but if I'm paying into it, I better get some out of it.

What he was saying is if you're 37 it doesn't matter if the minimum age is 50 or 55 any longer, b/c to put in your 20 years you will be 57. As far as the 50% pension, By 50% he means after 20 years, you earn 50% of your salary as your pension. Every year after 20, you earn add'l %....thats how it works. He's not saying you are only going to get half what you're due.

Remember fellas, 55 is the MINIMUM AGE you can retire and start pulling your pension. 63 is the MAXIMIUM AGE you can work for the CFD. So, you can come on at 38, have a 25 year career, and still pull a decent pension.

The 111 class is in right now. Saw them all leaving the building after class when I was driving by there Tuesday while working.

I heard the opposite, who knows nothing we can do to control it, I did hear that they are expecting 300 to 450 to retire whatever though time will tell
