over on chicagofirefighting.com it was said that the numbers were 15,000 with 12% female so I dunno thats still a HUGE gap between the number they were looking for.

well i like the sound of that. The number I heard was 21,000 but 15,000 sounds awesome. I think it serves the city right though, From what I've heard and gathered from the sound of the initial annoucement from da mayor and trotter that they were actively recruiting people from this job from all over the country. No offence to anyone not from Chicago, but I dont think thats fair. I have no problem with people coming from other parts of the country to try and get on, but I dont think its necessary for them to advertise. It's a big enough department where the word will get out. I think it sends a poor message to the citizens of Chicago and not fair to them either to try and import people when theres a giant pool of people in the city that really want the job.

    Cool

10% minorities is pretty bad for Chicago. Maybe they shouldn't charge people to take the lotto style test.

    From the online Sun-Times today:
    Just under 25K applications.
    49% White
    26% Black
    21% Hispanic
    2% Asian
    86% Men
    14% Women

I was frankly quite surprised by the low numbers. The City went way out of their way to get the info out to people. And PeeKay, the fee was waived if you can prove your poor. Good luck to all of you who are taking the test. They say this list will be good for 3 years. I dont believe it. I would bet it goes 5.

Okay, according to another site, typical academy classes are approx 150. Figuring that CFD places 2000 on the list, running 3 academies per year, it's 4.5 years for list exhaustion, BUT with the new EMT requirement, that adds another 3 months to the academy so it would be 2 per year, on every 6 months, which would make the list last 6.5 years. So five would seem to be the likely solution, and the smartest. Sorry, just feeling logical this evening.

So why are we still calling the Black/Hispanic/Asian/Other group the minority. The way I see it, it is 51% SUPPOSED MINORITY (Black/Hispanic/Asian/Other) and 49% TRUE MINORITY (White). Does this make sense to anybody?

    That is all.

Well Chicago is a minority-majority city, but they (being minorities) still make-up less than proportional numbers in many city departments. I really wouldn't worry about it too much, Chicago will hire great people of all different backgrounds.

I recieved my notice to report today in an e mail and it said one of the things that needs to be brought with to the exam was the "Applicant Receipt/Confirmation Page received when applying (If available)". I originally printed that off but since then I lost it does anyone know what "if available means"?

Is it nessecerary to bring that?

    Thanks

I had a problem printing mine out when applying. After several calls to H.R. I was informed that it will not be mandatory to have the actual print out, but you will need to know your applicant number. They say to bring the form because it has your number printed on it and they don't want a bunch of guys showing up who don't know where to go.

There are 9,135 questions on the test. You have to correctly answer them all to be considered.

I'll give you a serious reply from previous fire tests I have taken. Probably no more than 200 questions at the most; as far as how many you need to get right, that depends on how everyone else does. For Chicago you better do well to move on to the next level.
