Hey everyone. I am doing research on 12 hour shift work in the fire service. Does anyone have any info or references for me regarding this. We currently work a 3-4 modified and used to work a 5-6. Any help would be apprecieated.

Not sure what you are looking for. Hear in the northeast you see several different scheduals.
3 on 3 off (3 days 3 off 3 nights 3 off)
2-2-4 (2 days 2 nights 4 off)
24-72 (1-24 on 3 off)
1 on 1 off 1 on 5 off (1-24 on 1-24 off 1-24 on 5 off)
My personal favorite is 24-72 but I'm stuck with a 3 on 3 offIAFF member, Love this job! Remember the oath!

12 hr. shifts
I don't know about it in the fire service, but in the oilfield we do. With 4 crews, they work 4 on, 4 off. Or 7 on, 7 off. Most recently, we only had 3 crews, and worked a 4 on, 2 off rotation.
Money wise, the 7 & 7 gives you the most O.T. , but if you have to work 12's, 4 & 2 is the way to go...........at least on the rigs anyway.
