Default Ex-South Carolina Firefighter settles Nepotism suit.

In a comment to the press Cooper stated the following about Rock Hill, South Carolina:

"About the only thing I miss from down there are the guys from the fire department and my in-laws," he said.

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

Not likely. The city had law on their side. As archaic as it was the law is the law. The settlement was for $5000.

    Here is the story http://www.sconfire.com/news/10-27.htm

I am sure this settlement was to make the case go away. It could have been held up in courts for awhile and it was cheaper to make it go away.

    sad really...

    Thumbs down Not Me...............

I would not have settled, I'd have drug it out to the bitter end. BTW, where was the IAFF in this? I would have thought that they would stand up for their member. Of course that's assuming there is a local there, and that he was a member. (Grant, any comment on this? Thanks)

I see in one of your links, Grant that he's going through Ohio's Recruit training at the Ohio Fire Academy. I'll be there next week, so if I can catch him at break, I may just have to shake that young man's hand. At least the settlement helped pay for the move.

Btw, I believe he has family at the FD where he's working now. To paraphrase Alanis Morisette, "Isn't it ironic", especially since the city paid almost $28K to defend this nonsense?

If he was paid $5000 to "make him go away", does that mean the City will pay the same money out again and again if this situation arises in the future? Seems a little odd that a policy/law that has been in force for years suddenly needs to be defended by its makers? Hardly makes for good fiscal sense to the taxpayers of the city to pay through the nose for what is I admit a pretty stupid rule, but pay twice in costs and compensation for somthing that did'nt have to be defended through the courts in anycase?

    The South is Backwards!!!!!!

Read the articles on all that the Chief made himself sound stupid by saying that if it wasn't for that policy he might not of had a job because someones relative could have gotten it insted. Doesn't say much about his hiring ability.

There's axeholes everywhere you go and geographic location doesn't seem to matter to thin that particular herd out.
