Default Fire Rig Of The Future...circa 1945

Ran up on this while web-surfing just now.

This is a Bohn Aluminum And Brass ad from 1945, showing their vision of what a mid-mount straight frame aerial ladder would look like in the future.

One interesting detail they hit right on the nose, from the looks of things...looks like all the riding positions are enclosed.

That and the ladder looks like it might just make it to the third story

For all the life of me, i cant see a firefighter going to hell. At least not for very long. We would end up putting out all the fires and annoying the devil too much.

You'd have to take it down to the airport to turn it around, like Jerry Clower used to say about limos.
Still,in the 21st century,we are supposed to have flying cars and wiseaxe robots for housekeepers.
Where's my flying car and never mind that I am afraid of flying.I want a flying car!

    Default Research.................

Am I the only one who has noticed that: No matter how streamlined and futuristic the design (Drawings made in the 30s and 40s) there is still the huge "Searchlight" sticking up somewhere. I'm too lazy, but if somebody wants to look up a real neat 40s thing that was acutally built and sold (Very few!) try searching for "Spangler Dual Truck" or "Spangler Fire Engine" It was powered by twin Ford Flathead V8s and had two 500 gpm pumps........

It seems to me that even in 1945, they recognized that the Quint would eventually reign supreme.
