didn't get the job - is it ok to call & ask how to better my chances next time?

I got the call this morning - on my answering machine...the capt. left his name & number...

Is it ok to call back & ask him how to improve my chances next time?

If not or so...any advice?

Defeinitely OK. I've done it and have found out the the successful applicant had a particular qualification above mine which put them in a better position. I then knew what I needed to do when reapplying in the future for that or any other job....

I think any decent employer should provide some sort of feedback.

But it doesn't always happen. You may or may not get the information you're looking for sometimes because of liability issues. Some will not answer you, return your call or feel put on the spot. It's a gift if someone will give it to you straight.

By all means YES. But with a qualifier.....
If a candidate looks me up after an exam I will help him or her ONLY IF they are seeking information on how to better perform. If I get any inclination that they are disputing their score, I am done with the conversation.

None of us are successful with everything we do. The best way to get better is to get feedback. In the testing process, it's rare.

I would encourage you to put on a suit and tie and a humble attitude and go to the station and seek information on how to better perform.
