Crews Battle Suspicious Fire at Abandoned Building
November 3rd, 2005 @ 7:47am
(KSL News) A large, early morning fire at an abandoned home is being considered suspicious this morning.
Crews responded just after 4:00 this morning to calls of 50 foot flames and heavy smoke. Firefighters were still battling the flames a couple of hours later, and shut down 700 East from South Temple to 400 South.
The house was boarded up days ago by the owner. That's one reason firefighters are calling this fire suspicious.
Dennis McKone, Asst. Chief, Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "At this point the fire is under investigation due to the fact that this house is vacant and we did have a fire in it earlier this summer."
Crews were worried the fire might jump to a nearby assisted living facility, but crews were able to get flames under control quickly and did not have to evacuate anyone.
