You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

That's just awful to watch. I guess from the scuttlebutt I have heard is that he didn't get hurt too bad, just some bumps and bruises, no broken bones. He could have been easily killed.

I think about these types of videos everytime I do a traffic stop when I'm working for the Sheriff's Dept. I hate drivers that don't even give you the common courtesey to slow down and move to the next lane.

No sir, don't like it. Don't like it at all.

    Fortunate guy there.

Of course we wouldn't want to move over a lane to give the officer on the side of the road some safety.

    Friggin dumbass.

The driver was probably from some boondock VFD, where it is ok to have a few and then respond to a call out.

But he wash prubably unda da limit occifer.

From the view we could not see the flashing from the zap-your-eyes brand wig-wags and leds.

Anyone want to discuss having a few and responding.

    Horse????? anybody out there?

crap, the officer is very lucky that he was not seriously hurt. From the way he flew it looked like some very serious stuff. People need to learn to slow down and move over to give the cop some room to work...especially when its wet out!

Vermont State Police has started a campaign to combat exactly that... TV commercials are running during the evening that are encouraging people to pull to the right for emergency vehicles, as well as giving an extra lane as you pass any type of emergency scene.

If the campaign can prevent one incident like this, I'd say it's been successful.

I am very impressed with how quickly the officer came to his senses and dashed off the road!

That video was on the tube a few years ago, and it is still amazing to see. His bones must have been creaking the next morning. I like the way he bounced up so quickly, like a cartoon charactor.

Did you say Vermont State Police? I'm surprised the officer didn't get up and call the driver a chicken f%@ker. Thanks, meow.

Back in March,I fell off the side of a Nissan XTerra but for different reasons. From my experience, this officer was sore as H in the morning.
When I was a rent a cop with aspirations towards becoming a "real"cop,I was told by friends on the SO that you park about three or four feet to the left of the stopped vehicle to give you a buffer zone from traffic. You can always make them move a little farther over if need be to make it possible.
On scene safety is a big concern for me,no matter who the responder is and I have a very short fuse concerning people driving and yammering on their cell phones while passing an emergency scene.

Florida has a new law, move over or slow to 20 under the speed limit, I hope it works. Not all of us are as lucky as that officer.

Kentucky has a new law about move over to the other lane. But we also have a law about staying out of the left lane so if someone moves out of the lefthand lane to clear an emergency scene, would they be putting themselves at risk of a ticket?

Missouri has a law that people are supposed to give emergency vehicles an extra lane, if possible. This is on like two-lane or more highways. We have had quite a few troopers die this year due to people failing to give the right of way of this law. The State Patrol is stepping up ad campaigns and the such. Hopefully these incidents can be lowered as you can never eliminate stupid people.
