I've been given the task of presenting a discussion on Aerial Ops. I was interested in finding accidents/mishaps involving aerials, so we can hopefully learn from those experiences. Does anyone have advice as to where I could look for such info?
Thank you, Jim.

JL,
I don't know how you can get a hold of it, but there was a tape going around New Jersey in the late 1980's showing a factory fire in Deal. They were using the ladder pipe as a master stream and they put it too close. Good luck.Last edited by Shoreman22; 02-14-2006 at 10:43 PM.

Aerial Mishaps
Jim- I don't know where you would find videos, per se, but there is a fella from FDNY name is Mike Wilbur and he teaches an aerial ops class at FDIC east and he also runs a consulting firm that will consult localities on aerials. You might be well served looking him up. Here is the web address: http://www.emergencyvehicleresponse.com/. He is a really nice guy, and he may be able to help you. The class that I attended he had alot of pictures and video footage about aerial mishaps. Hope this helps.

Along with Wilbur I would also do a search on the forums...this was discussed a few times recently. All I can remember was an incident in Florida, New York and Kansas City. Do some Google'ing you might just find something good.

We've got this video called Aerial Errors. I can't recall how long it is or where we got it from. I'll have a look and see if it has a contact on it. If not I could always make a copy of it.Ssssshhhhhh. It's got some pretty scary clips in it. It'll make some guys think twice about stability or overloading.

A guy went and bought a retired fire truck. He took it to parades, parties, etc. He brought it to a muster of antiques, and not knowing how to use/setup/operate his truck, he set it up. Swung the ladder to the side, it tipped over...on top of a recently restored Seagrave engine! The guy knew nothing about operating an aerial and that jacks and such were necessary.

I don't know when your are presented your course, however I also have the aerial errors video and a funny clip from the "Roxanne" movie. I also have some individual news clips of some aerial 'mishaps.' If you'd like email me at alsfirefighter30@aol.com. I teach Apparatus Operator-Aerial in NY .
Unfortunately I am awaiting a new hard drive after I got a blue screen of death. Once I get it and transfer my powerpoints and videos over I will burn you a copy if you'd still like it. Sorry I can't help you sooner.
