*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON, ENGLAND

THURSDAY 3 NOVEMBER

Hackney – man rescued

A man was rescued from a flat fire on Pownall Road, Hackney in the early hours of this morning. The blaze started in the lounge and is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette setting fire to a sofa. Half of the first floor flat was damaged by fire and there was heavy smoke logging throughout the property. The man was rescued from the four roomed flat via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance crews suffering from smoke inhalation. Kingsland Watch Manager Daniel Collier said, “There was no working smoke alarm in the flat. Had it not been for an alert neighbour seeing the smoke and calling the Brigade this incident could have been much more serious. It is essential that every home owner has a working smoke alarm failure to do so could have tragic circumstances.” The London Fire Brigade carries out home fire safety checks and will fit a free smoke alarm where needed. To make an appointment or for more information call freephone 0800 0 24 48 24. The Brigade was called at 0401. Firefighters from Kingsland fire station attended the incident.

Hammersmith – man rescued
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Crefeld Close in Hammersmith yesterday morning. Part of the first floor flat was damaged by the blaze. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the man from the five roomed flat and he was taken to hospital by London Ambulance crews suffering from smoke inhalation. The Brigade was called at 1112. Firefighters from Fulham fire station attended.
