Give it two more months and it might be functional.
13 months in the planning, 3 months of legal stuff and 7 more months waiting for construction to begin we finally have something![]()

Looks like a rescue body to me. More than likely non walk-in because of the top of the coffin compartments up top being already framed in.

I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!
One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

I'll agree on the rescue body. Possibly a Hackney?

You are correct, it is (or will be) a rescue. Non walk-in and will have a pump.
Well Todd you were close, not a Hackney almost though, they did submit a bid.
The builder is Marion Body Works in Wisconsin.

What kind of "legal stuff" did you have to go through?

By “Legal stuff” I was referring to the seeking of quotes from some of the potential builders. Then to the Township for approval (they almost had a coronary at the cost). Advertising for bids, opening bids, picking the one closest to our specs., then it was back to the Township to justify why the lowest bid was not the best bid (now that was fun

Interesting fact, Marion builds the cabs for Spartan and then ships them to Michigan to be finished. Then on to the apparatus builder. In our case it was back to Marion.

Does Marion build ALL the cabs for Spartan or just certian models? I am surprised that Spartan would sub that job out. It is almost like doing business with your competitor. Spartan owns Crimson Fire, which would compete for business with Marion.

Ferrara sends their trucks to Smeal to have the aerial installed and then it's sent back to have the body built.
Any body want to guess Ferrara costs on an aerial is higher due to transportation costs.
I guess whatever works for you.

Ours is a Spartan as well, I like the cabs

All kinds of "whacky" relationships exist - look at Spartan/Crimson in general, they are a builder as well as a chassis supplier, but their biggest customer (I believe) for fire chassis is Rosenbauer. They're also happy to badge engineer private label chassis for their "competition" as well, with Smeal, Rosenbauer, etc. using Spartan's chassis as their own.
If Marion can build the cabs cheaper than Spartan can do it themselves, and provide a superior product - if only makes financial sense to do things that way.
