If any of you have Pierce Quantums please check the cross member brackets on the cross member just behind the transmission. We have found three units so far with problems and about 20 more to look at. We have found cracks where the bracket has been rolled over and bolted to the frame rails. We have also noted what looks like metal pitting and open breaks in the metal. One aerial out for safety reasons because it is so bad. Just a heads up for those with these units. Better safe than sorry.

We had the same problem with Spartans a number of years ago. The fix was to double up the cross members, no issues since. Might be more a generic problem.

During what time span where these units built? We don't have any but several neighboring dept.s do.

cracks
Our units were built 2000-2003. The 2003 units, of which I have inspected just one so far, is good. It seems to be the first years that are bad but I won't knowuntil I have completed the whole fleet inspection just where we stand. I am starting today with my full fleet inspections. I will let you know more when we have completed the fleet just how many units I have infected with the problem. Keep em safe.

update
With only three more units to look at we have found a total of seven units affected. 4 aerials and 3 engines with the aerials being the worst. I have Pierce people coming the 28th to do the work on all but the one aerial we fixed with replacement parts here. keep em safe.
