Hundreds Of 911 Signs Have Been Stolen
Nov 18, 2005, 07:01 PM EST Hundreds Of 911 Signs Have Been Stolen
Hundreds of 9-1-1 signs are no longer visible in Knott County.
Police say thieves have taken the signs that are vitally important to saving lives.
You may not pay much attention to them every day, that is, unless you're trying to follow directions.
EMS, police, and fire crews rely on them daily to save lives!
When 9-1-1 signs are missing emergency responders say they're missing minutes that are crucial to helping someone live.
"We've traveled less than a mile and we've saw three so far just right in the city limits of Hindman, that's not branching out all over the county," Trooper Tony Watts said.
"Due to the response time, of maybe possibly roads being changed, we may not be familiar with the names until they post them and list them to us and us responding along with others it can hinder time frame," Tracy Neice said.
911 Coordinator Vanessa Cook says she just made 95 new signs last week after they were stolen and this week they're here.
In the past, police say signs have been found on the walls of teenagers' rooms, but police say these were found as trash.
If you have any information about the stolen 911 signs, call state police toll free at 1-800-222-5555.
