    Default Amendment

We posted an amendment to the commo grant last night. What do you think the odds of getting the word back before the end of this week would be?

Also, when I was talking to the Program Specialist, she said that they may stick to their guns on not letting us use more than the $5,000 left over. We are only asking for $5,750. You think she's pretty accurate there? I thought they gave some kind of latitude to regional projects? I mean we're talking about 21 departments here. Getting them to agree on one thing has been a feat in itself

I don't see it going for more than the $5K. Even though it's regional, it's one application, and since the AFG "rules" are actually Federal Laws, they can't bend on that one.

Well I'm still hoping. If they don't go for more will they allow us to use the $5K and then we will just have to pay for anything over the top of that?

It took me 6 weeks to get my amendment approved

Yes, if they don't approve more than the $5K then you can pay the extra $750 or whatever it ends up being in the end.

Our Regional Grant is in the same predicament. In the narrative we specified a certain amount of pagers, hand-held and mobile radios. We also factored in CA sales tax individually, then without realizing, we taxed the subtotal.

A specific type of radio was used as the "base price" but we were able to get a better deal because of the quantities involved.....bottom line, we will have "leftover" dollars probably exceeding 75K. Sure would like to purchase an additonal repeater, or perhaps a cache of handheld radios for when the big one hits.

According to my grant specialist, there is no way that I can exceed the 5K maximum. The rest can be used for fire prevention only or returned.

I already checked...a repeater cannot be classed as fire prevention.

You have to be able to communicate effectively in order to have a proper fire prevention program. I can see where it fits. These guys think so unilaterally.

Well the grant gods must love me this year. We got a phone call with verbal confirmation that the ammendment was accepted today with all the changes we asked for along with the back up repeater. He stated that we should have the e-mail confirmation within 3 days. So Phase II is now under way. Called the vendor today and placed the order. Hopefully we'll have this thing up and running within the next 3 months.

Default 3 months to clear pending amendment

I'm glad you got a timely reply.

My horror story entails an amendment posted on Aug 13 which wasn't approved until Nov 28 with a deadline to complete purchases and seek reimbursements by Nov 30. Luckily I had already done the purchases and the reimbusements and second semi-annual report went smoothly.

It turns out a FEMA rep didn't clear the pending amendment properly on August 22 and even though he posted a response to the FEMA site somewhere it was never sent to me. It took several contacts over the three months to get it resolved and the state AFG rep was instrumental in finally moving it forward. Even still FEMA in DC on Nov 4 said my amendments were approved and gave me an extension to Nov 30 allowing me to make the needed purchases and promised the amendments would be cleared in a few days so I could seek reimbursement. After repeated phone calls finally on Nov 28 FEMA in DC cleared the pending amendments but still only gave me the Nov 30 deadline promised three weeks earlier.

Now I am waiting for the funds to be deposited so I can start the purchases on my Fire Prevention Grant hopefully I'll have better luck.
