Anyone know of a site that makes custom leather fronts that have "carved" or embossed letters/numbers rather than decals? I have ordered several from the firestore.com and while they are nice fronts, not what I am looking for.

I'm not exactly sure what it is your looking for. Do you mean the panel lettering itself?
This site has the best looking shields I think I've ever seen... http://www.helmetshield.com/ I realize they're not carved or embossed, but the painting and artwork is fantastic! I think I may order one of these for myself one day.
Can you give any more specifics on what exactly it is you're looking for?

Very nice but what I am looking for is embossed panel lettering. I have found a site and have sent an email. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything else. Here's the link: www.socalfools.com/helmet.php
Scroll to the bottom to see the shields with the lettering like I am talking about.

Try looking at these on E-bay...
search "leather fire helmet"
under that you will see some custom shields that are made..i believe in Kansas City, MO......if you search their other listings you can see some of their work and maybe get a hold of them by email to get your own custom front

I appreciate the replys everyone, but none are what I am looking for. The links provided are to either places that paint the shield or use decals on the panels both of which I do not want. Near the top of the thread is a link I provided showing a couple shields like I am looking for. I want one that the lettering is stamped into the leather so it is permanent. I have tried to contact the place in the link I provided but have not heard anything yet. I was just trying to see if there was any place out there to compare. Thanks again.

Bob Stella and www.helmetshield.com is the ticket! I have had 5 shields made from him and everyone is OUTSTANDING QUALITY and workmanship.

I usually just make them for guys on my job but can probably do one for you. I finished one of these yesterday and will finish the Boston shaped one today. You can contact me at carmodycfd@cox.net if you would like.
