*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

2 Serious EMS Crashes (TX & PA) & (GA) FF's Injured

Four firefighters and three civilians were transported after an ambulance collided with another vehicle in southwest Houston around 12:30 p.m. today, Wednesday. The ambulance had a patient on board and was en route to the hospital when the accident occurred. The ambulance was on the shoulder of the road and may have overturned. According to the HFD, one person was listed in critical condition, but none of the other injuries were considered life-threatening. There was no immediate cause of the accident, but Houston police are conducting and investigation.

Also this afternoon, an Atlanta firefighter was transported shortly before noon after being injured at an apartment fire in downtown Atlanta. An AFD spokesman said several walls collapsed as firefighters were operating to the blaze at a complex on the corner of Pine Street and Boulevard. An earlier report listed one firefighter missing and another injured.

And from earlier this week, in Norristown (PA) there was an accident that involved an ambulance and a station wagon. There are conflicting reports about whether or not the ambulance had its lights and sirens on. Eyewitness Denise Thomas described the scene as, “Crash, boom, crash and then it hit a pole.” “He didn’t turn them on until he got in the middle of this block. The man was already coming through the intersection. It’s not that man’s fault – it was not. He had the right of way,” said Thomas, adding, “They were almost clear through the intersection and the ambulance came up, switching lanes and hit the back of the end of the car.” However-Another witness, Gerald Bendig, disagreed saying the ambulance passed him moments before the accident: “He had his lights and sirens on.”

The crash happened just before 1900 Sunday in Norristown sending the Plymouth EMS ambulance into a pole and forcing the station wagon in to the corner of St. Patrick’s Church. “One girl was already lying in the street and the other kid was being taken out and he had a head injury,” said Bendig, adding, “The other child had lower abdomen pain.” Three children and one adult were reportedly riding in the Ford Taurus. The ambulance driver and a medic were in the other vehicle. All six were reportedly taken to the hospital. As of Monday morning, media reported that three children were at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia but their conditions were not released.

It is unclear if everyone was wearing their seatbelt. Take Care, Be Careful, Be Thankful.

Finsbury Park – fire fatality

An older man has died following a fire in a fourth floor flat on Seven Sisters Road in Findsbury last night. Early indications suggest that the fire may have been caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette. Crews wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control and managed to stop it from spreading into other properties. The Brigade was called at 1724 and the fire was under control by 1812. Crews from Holloway and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the incident.
