Wow! I couldn't believe it when I heard on the news that the Gateway hotel in High River Alberta burnt to the ground this morning. I was on my way home from Lethbridge and my SAIT paramedic interview when I heard the news. It brought back memories of the grain elevator fire about a year and a half ago. Had some good Friday nights at Smilie's. Hope Dave404 has a little more insight on the magnitude of the response and resources that were required.

OOOPS! Long day - Its always crappy to lose a battle, but nobody injured no other buildings damaged.
Investigation to start tomorrow - we have an idea, just have to confirm it!

I know that hotel. Shame to hear it's gone now. Although, I do have a bad memory of that place (if I'm remembering correctly); one of my summer friends was stabbed and killed outside that hotel many years ago........ WOW, it was a lot of years ago. Glad to hear no one was injured Dave404.
Looking at those pictures brings back memories, I haven't been back to High River since my Grandparents passed away. I used to love going to the Highwood (damn memory issues) park and sit on the bank of the Bow River. Broke my collar bone when I was 12 in that park, trying to show off for a boy :rolleyes: He was nice though, and walked me back to my Grandma's house LOL. The things we do for you men :p
Funny how a couple of pictures can cause memories to come flooding back, I could go on forever, but I won't. I'll save you all that pain, kinda like having to watch family trip videos :eek:

Leaving shortly to go dig in the cold, cold snow - oh and by the way - the gas in the picture was in no way used to aid in the fire! I was grabbing the gas to refill the k-12!
Hmmmmm just think, it wasn't that long ago that I was running the pump in the bowling alley parking lot. Almost the same spot the DOT truck is parked in.
That was the elevator fire. And we were worried that morning about the Hotel exposure.
Good job guys, makes me wish I could have been a part of it.
