    On Sunday, November 27, 2005 at 4:23 Hours, (PST), fifteen Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, three Battalion EMS Supervisors, three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, and one Arson Unit under the direction of Battalion Chief John Drake, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 830 South Catalina Street in Pico Heights/Koreatown area. First units on the scene reported a two-story residential four-plex well involved in the front. Using handlines, Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire and confined the fire to the two story structure. The fire was extinguished in twenty-one minutes. During firefighting operations, one Firefighter /Paramedic suffered a burn to his hand. He was transported to Sherman Oaks Community Hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported. All occupants of the the building self evacuated prior to the arrival of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Eighteen occupants were displaced. The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist with temporary placement (15 adults and 3 children). The cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $275,000. ($200,000 structure and $75,000 contents)

    Chiswick – man rescued

    Firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Wellesley Road in Chiswick this morning. The blaze started in the kitchen and fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading throughout the property. An older man was rescued by firefighters from the first floor flat via an internal staircase. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. The Brigade was called at 0822 and the fire was under control by 0840. Firefighters from Chiswick and Acton fire stations attended. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    SUNDAY 27 NOVEMBER

    Leytonstone – house fire

    Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters were called to a blaze at a house on Ramsey Road, Leytonstone in the early hours of this morning. The fire started in the first floor bedroom and damaged half of the first floor and part of the roof. Two women escaped from the building before the Brigade arrived. They were both taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation and shock. The Brigade was called at 0421 and the fire was under control by 0448. Firefighters from Leytonstone and Stratford fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    Firefighter Death


    It is with deep regret we announce the death of Robert Timothy Staepel on 25Nov2005. Tim was a Firefighter/EMT at Navy Region Mid Atlantic Fire and Emergency Services (Philadelphia Navy Yard Fire Dept), volunteer Firefighter at Cherry Hill Fire Dept, New Jersey until the dept went paid in 1994, and present President of IAFF Local F-61 Firefighters Union.

    Tim received various awards and citations during his 12 year Federal Firefighting career, most recent being a Lifesaving Award for locating and saving a newborn infant in January 2002.

    He is survied by his wife, Tracy, 9 year old son Shaun, 5 year old daughter Michaela, his mother, 2 brothers and a sister.

    Calling hours will be 7pm to 9pm Wed. Nov 30 at Schetter Funeral Home, Cherry Hill, N.J with Funeral Mass on Dec 1 at St. Joseph's Pro Cathedral, Camden, N.J.

    CAMDEN, NJ


    Camden New Jersey Fire Department will be honoring three fallen fire fighters who were killed at the Sixth Regiment Armory Fire at West and Mickle Streets on March 16, 1906.

    We have found that one of the members is buried in an unmarked grave at the Evergreen Cemetery in Camden. A fund has been established to buy one fallen member a head stone to mark his grave and to upgrade the other two firemen. One was from Engine Co. 1 and two were from Ladder Co. 2. We have made up 200 special Fire Department tee shirts commemorating this 100th Anniversary of this tragic fire. There is alot more to the story about this fire and the events. Some are actually ghostly in nature relating to things that happened before and after the fire more info forthcoming about this.

    The tee shirts are available now and are selling very quickly and we anticipate a fast Sell Out. They come in all sizes from Medium, Large, EXlarge, XXlarge, XXXlarge. They are $20.00 each if picked up---$5.00 shipping charge for mailing.
