    Question Real Tree or Artificial??

Which do you put up for Christmas, a real tree or an artificial tree? I bought an artificial tree 2 years ago and I'll never go back to a needle droppin match head again!

Artificial... with 2 kids under 5 its just easier then dealing with the needles dropping and the kids crying when they bump into it and get pricked by a needle.

Not to mention the new abode has a wood burning fireplace and electric heat in the same room so I would have to hook it up to the kitchen sink to keep it hydrated!!!

Both. We use an artificial tree for hanging the fancy, heavy, expensive, fragile ornaments and a real tree for the rest of the ornaments. Presents and trains go under the real tree. I've never been a real fan of the artificials, but it's been too hard to find a real tree that has the strength in the branches for some of the ornaments we collect.

    Default trees

I use artificial trees but this year I ain't decorating nothing. Going to Disneyland and look at other peoples decorations. Did the same thing at DisneyWorld in 2000. Sure beats the heck of getting down the 35 boxes of stuff my wife has me put up when we are home for the holidays. She has 6 trees and a theme room for each and every one like the Santa Room and the Snow man room and so on.Somehow Vegas doesn't seem real Christmassy unless you look at the snow on the mountains.

Artifical. I love real trees and used them all my life but the fake ones are so much easier. Plus the one we have looks pretty real and no clean up.

We used to cut our own from the woods behind my house when I was a kid. Oh, the memories!

When we moved from Mass. to Florida in '72 we went to artificial. Then, the year my oldest daughter was born (6 years ago), we went back to real.

I cut a pair of "cookies" from the tree trunk when I'm getting it ready to be put up. I write the year on it and let my girls write their names on them. We save them as a souvenir of each Christmas for the kids to keep when their older.

Artificial...never had a real tree and wouldn't want one. Used to play under a pine tree when I was little, and stepping on needles then was not pleasant and I'm sure it wouldn't be any more so now.

Tried to talk my family into letting me use the color scheme we use on the station tree this year on the tree at home, but no one would go for only red and silver (chrome). Weird...I thought everyone's favorite colors were red and chrome...

Our Christmas tree is decorated with patriotic symbols(red/white/blue ornaments) and fire Dept ornaments (Dalmations, maltese crosses, Santa in a set of turnout gear, etc...you get the idea). Of course, there are ornaments that the kids have made, naturally.

REAL one!!!!! I always had artificial until I moved out here, and since having a real tree I won't go back to a fake one. I love the way it smells and looks. I make sure it's not dry when I buy it, I spend quite a bit of time looking, and once it's home it's watered constantly. I don't allow the water level to drop too much in the reservoir.

Went and bought my tree yesterday. It's a gorgeous Douglas Fir that stands about 8' high . I didn't realize quite how tall it was, there will barely be enough room for the angel on top of the tree, but she should fit!! It's so full and pretty it seems almost a shame to decorate it, but not quite. I can't wait to get it all gussied up LOL.

Once I decorate my tree I start to get into the Christmas spirit a bit more. Plan on starting my baking today and continuing through the week. Bought most of my supplies yesterday.

When do you all find yourself getting into the spirit? Are you like me, do you have to wait until the tree is up?

We pretty much grew up w/ an artificial tree...but it was decorated the same every year. Still is when I go home, but for the past 20 years, it's been a real tree. I just love the smell. (But that's at mom's.... ) And I'd be disappointed if it were decorated any different...I love my mom's tree.

Me? Never put up a tree (I'm always somewhere "home" for Christmas, so why bother (no kids). And it's too much work for a real tree. But I decorate the house a bit w/ decorations and maybe a bunch of real branches w/ lights and ornaments.

I'm grateful for the reason for Christmas and enjoy the season.

Growing up it was always artificial for me; real for Hubby. Then we got married and it was always a real one. Last year, I received Mother's tree so we used that. Now there is a debate happening.

(I suspect that the live tree is going to win)

    Thumbs up Artificial............

We've had Artificials for years, and besides the usual safety points, they are easier to put up and take down with less mess. They also are sturdier for my wife's antique ornament collection, which includes some that were handmade by my wife's late mother. (Yeah Bones, me too) Since we're on a roll with Christmas things, I'm going looking for the Christmas lighting thread from a couple of years back.

We always go with real trees, even going out and cutting one when we can find a place that does that. Always make sure do water it well, keep it moist.

this is what can happen if you dont.

I have a prelit tree. There are only 2 pieces to it. you put the top on the bottom and the "branches" fold out, speard it around a little, plug it in and your done. Takes about 5 minutes to set up.

It's got to be real. Nothing like taking the kids out and cutting a tree.
