U S A Fire Schools
Hello all, im a paid firefighter here in the great state of arkansas. I went to school with some die hard firefighters from CANADA. I thought that they were some of the best people I have ever met. I just wanted to know what fire schools in cananda are like and why firefighters from up north come all the way down here..
Wish some of you guys would have stayed here.. FROM ARKANSAS
Hey 7160, they get wildland and structure training in Arkansas. Im unsure if they formal academy in Canada. They are here for every standards class that is put on in Camden. Later...................
There are fire academies all across Canada. I guy I work with went to the academy in Arkansas. I went to Kilgore Texas. The reason we head south is the price. I saved about 7000 $ going to an American school. I doesn't matter where ya go to school as long as it is IFSAC accredited.
As Firedog said, there are academies all over Canada. Personally I went to JIBC but this is a 3 month full-on program for FF1 and 2 along with some other basic certifications. I know a number of people that have gone to the states instead due to the lesser cost and shorter time frame.
So did ya like it???
How was it down here. And ive known of jibc.... How is the training up there. Also how hard would it be to get a job in BC, if you already got your cert....
Arkansas Fire Academy
I went to the Fire Academy at SAU tech. The main reason was that I could complete the course in 7 weeks vs. 12 weeks in Canada. And I could also go to Arkansas for less money. Figured I'd get an interesting cultural experience out of the deal as well as a fancy piece of paper. I was actually supposed to start a class with the JIBC as I had passed all their entrance tests etc. Got a call last minute from Arkansas and decided to go there to save time and money. 7 weeks away from work vs. 12 also saves you big in the lost income category.
