*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

MINNEAPOLIS, MN: 11-30-05 to 12-01-05

Fire Wednesday night ravaged a multi-million dollar mansion in a posh Minneapolis neighborhood (Lake of the Isles area) and reduced it to a shell.

The fire, on the 2500 block of W. Lake of the Isle Parkway, started at around 9 p.m. Wednesday night and burned for almost 12 hours. Crews arrived to find plumes of smoke and huge orange flames shooting from the home, which is for sale for $2.5 million. Initially firefighters were able to get inside, but were forced back out because of the intensity of the fire. The fire started in the basement, but quickly spread up through the home and up to the roof, which has collapsed. The water damage to the home is extensive. The 6,600 square foot mansion was built in 1922.

New Orleans Fire Capt Killed/2 FF Inj

It is with deep regret that we advise you that a New Orleans Fire Captain was killed and two firefighters were injured this afternoon when their apparatus collided with a van and flipped on its side after swerving to avoid a truck hauling hurricane debris. The crew of three, who were responding to a gas leak at a house in eastern New Orleans when the accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. One of the firefighters was taken to the hospital with head injuries while the other was taken with head and leg injuries. The Captain died at the scene. The apparatus was responding when a large truck crossed the apparatus path. Traffic at the intersection is controlled by stop signs since traffic lights have been inoperable since Hurricane Katrina. The fire truck apparatus is reported to have swerved to the right to avoid the truck and struck an All State insurance van carrying two people who were transported to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. More details when available.

As always, our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to all affected-and certainly to the N.O.F.D. and their members...based upon all they had already been through.

More details when they become available.

Take Care-BE CAREFUL,

BillyG
