    Talking Australian Jingle Bells

A friend of my mothers e-mailed me this Christmas Carol and I have no idea what half of the sayings mean. Maybe some of you from down under can fill me in.

Dot asked me to pass this little jingle on to you all.

    Australian Jingle Bells
    Dashing through the bush,
in a bright blue Holden Ute,
    Kicking up the dust,
    esky in the boot,
    Kelpie by my side,
    singing Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in
    my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut !,
Oh what fun it is to ride in my bright blue Holden Ute.

    Engine's getting hot;
    we dodge the kangaroos,
    The swaggie climbs aboard,
    he is welcome too.
    All the family's there,
    sitting by the pool,
    Christmas Day the Aussie way,
    by the barbecue.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a bright blue Holden Ute.

    Come the afternoon,
    Grandpa has a doze,
    The kids and Uncle Bruce,
    are swimming in their clothes.
The time comes 'round to go,
    we take the family snap,
Pack the car and all shoot through,
    before the washing up.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in my bright blue Holden Ute

    Okay here are some translations:

    - in a bright blue Holden Ute,: A utility vehicle, sorta like a small pick up truck. Holden is a very popular car company owned by GM.

    - esky in the boot,: A beer cooler

-my singlet, shorts and thongs : thongs are flip flops over here, not G-strings

    - Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!: we are upside down, so is our weather.

    - The swaggie climbs aboard: A swagman is a wandering hitchiker.

    - Grandpa has a doze: a nap

    - we take the family snap: family photo

-Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut !, : beaut is short for beautiful.

I got in a bit of a mix up awhile back on this board when i called some people 'blokes' and they thought it might mean something derogatory

Any other bits you cant understand just ask.

    Kelpie by my side,
    singing Christmas songs,

    Kelpie = A Sheep Dog.

Probably the more intelligent of the two in the "Bright Blue Holden Ute".
