    Post Never sell your soul

I just retired from a local Boston area (northshore) FD. After 24 years of working for a political infested no balls newbie fire chief and his pack of butt sniffing 20-30 year old somethings that lack leadership and fire fighting experience, I find it a sad day that many brothers before me that retired, including myself, can only hope that the complete lack of leadership does not put into danger the very lives they are payed for to protect. I find that those who retired with their dignity and honor intact where the same brothers that refused to say "yes" to every nickle/dime situation that came down the pike. The "yes" men are the doorway dancers and attention media grabbers that only exist to wipe the butts of those that have no moral courage. The fire service exists to help the public in need, not have the public exist for egos in need. Those from this department will surely deny this condition exists and they know know they have to defend their worthless self serving egos. The true brothers that are still on the job serving the public will echo my words on hteir retirement day also. All others will ask themselves, "Was I a butt kisser?"
    Fraternally yours....Anyone agree/disagree?

You sound like the 18 miserable bastards that retired from my job. To bad you left with such a ****ed off attitude...but then again you probably needed to go..... so you didn't infect the younger guys. Also I'm not a new guy (20+ years) and I must say Its nice without some of those guys and there bitching and complaining.

I'm more curious to know the story behind this. We all know that there are people out there who really don't know what the fire service is about...ran into a few of those myself.

    Sorry that you left bitter.
But, hey; you left on your own terms, right?
When I left the department, as their chief, I had a party, they brought me gifts, local dignitaries attended; it was a happy/sad day.
I made some decisions that I didn't like, but I never compromised my principles, never sold out my guys, kept my moral compass and left with the best of memories.
God, I hope I'm not in a minority.
    Hope your situation improves.
