Fulham flat fire

Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat on Finborough Road in Fulham this morning. The fire started in the bedroom and is believed to have been caused by candles on top of the wardrobe. The blaze gutted the flat on the ground floor. An older woman was alerted to the blaze by a smoke alarm sounding and left the building before the Brigade arrived. She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance service crews suffering from smoke inhalation and shock. The brigade was called at 1159 and the fire was under control by 1243. Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters from Fulham, Chelsea and Kensington fire stations attended the incident.

Battersea flat blaze
Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Este Road in Battersea this afternoon. The fire started in the living room and is believed to have been caused by a faulty electrical appliance. A small amount of the second floor flat was damaged by the blaze and firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. A woman and three children left the building before the Brigade arrived. They were all taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation and shock. There was no smoke alarm in the property. The London Fire Brigade carries out home fire safety checks and will fit a free smoke alarm where needed. To make an appointment or for more information call freephone 0800 0 24 48 24. The Brigade was called at 1245 and the fire was under control by 1313. Fire crews from Battersea, Wandsworth and Clapham fire stations attended.

Texas FF Killed Responding-Apparatus Crash

A volunteer firefighter (who was also a career firefighter) who was a recent award recipient from the Hill Country community of Briggs, Texas was killed Sunday as he responded to a reported fire. Chad Wessels, 31, was responding when he lost control of the 1,200-gallon water tanker he was driving about 0130 hours. The tanker, a 1986 GMC flatbed truck, went off the road, struck a fence and some trees, and caught fire. Firefighter Wessels was pronounced dead at the scene, about 15 miles northeast of Burnet. Wessels worked full time as a firefighter at Fort Hood and as a volunteer firefighter in Marble Falls, where his wife, Melinda, is a dispatcher for the Police Department.

Last year, FF Wessels was voted Emergency Medical Services officer of the year by the Hill Country 100 Club, a group that helps survivors of firefighters, police officers and EMS officers wounded or killed in the line of duty. Wessels is also survived by a 7-month-old daughter, Kaylee Ann; and a 10-year-old daughter, Airelle. As always, our deepest sympathies go out to the affected firefighters, family and friends-but especially the wife and little girls left behind by this tragic loss.

Take care-BE CAREFUL.
