LOS ANGELES, CA:
STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 1631 hours (4:31 p.m. PST), six companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, one Battalion EMS Captain, one Hazmat Squad, and one Arson Unit, under the direction of Battalion Chief Robert M. Rose responded to a structure fire at 11140 N. Jellico Avenue in the Granada Hills area. First units on the scene reported a large, 3,000 square foot, one-story single family dwelling well involved with fire. With handlines, Firefighters entered the structure through the uninvolved portion of the house to make an aggressive attack on the fire when they encountered “pack-rat” like conditions. Making their way thru the maze like areas of the dwelling, Firefighters used the handlines to extinguish the fire in approximately twenty-three minutes. An adult male was in the house at the time of the blaze but escape prior to the arrival of the Fire Department suffering from minor smoke inhalation and first and second degree burns to his hands and feet. He was transported to Northridge Hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as a “faulty generator” in the home. Fire damage is estimated at $275,000. ($200,000 structure and $75,000 contents).

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON, ENGLAND

TUESDAY 20 DECEMBER

Hayes – flat fire

Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters were called to blaze at a flat on Willenhall Drive in Hayes last night. The fire started in the kitchen and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault with a kitchen appliance. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus managed to stop the fire from damaging other rooms in the flat. Smoke from the fire spread into a flat above. Two people left the building before the Brigade arrived. Another four people were led to safety by firefighters via an internal staircase. A woman was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from minor smoke inhalation. A smoke alarm fitted in the property alerted the occupiers to the blaze. The London Fire Brigade carries out home fire safety checks and will fit a free smoke alarm where needed. To make an appointment or for more information call freephone 0800 0 24 48 24 The Brigade was called at 1959 and the fire was under control by 2039. Firefighters from Hillingdon, Southall and Heathrow fire stations attended the incident.
