Passing of Battalion Chief Sylvan (Smitty) Smith

Smitty served Erlanger Fire/EMS for 51 years. Throughout his career in the fire service he has served every rank at Erlanger Fire/EMS and most recently as a Battalion Chief.

He also served as:

· 1999 Northern Kentucky Firefighter of the Year

· Legislative Agent for the Kentucky Firefighters Association

· Inducted to Kentucky Firefighters Hall of Fame 2003

· Served on the Kentucky Fire Commission

· Responsible for the creation of the Firefighter Low Interest Loan Program

· Instrumental in establishing the Firefighter Memorial in Frankfort, Kentucky

Thursday, December 22, 2005 Visitation at Scheben Gym/Dietz Auditorium

4pm-9pm 450 Bartlett Avenue

Erlanger Kentucky



Friday, December 23, 2005 Service & Procession from St. Henry Church

10am located at 3813 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere, Kentucky to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger



Any Fire Department interested in participating in the procession must reply to

Apparatus should be staged on Dixie Highway in Front of St. Henry Church no

later than 11am on Friday for procession from St. Henry to Forest Lawn.

Procession Communications will be on Mutual Aid Channel 154.280

Smitty was a true friend to the fire service.His commitment to the firefighter will be missed across the commonwealth of Kentucky!He worked to honor those who died serving others!
