4 pets killed when fire destroys mobile home

A double-wide mobile home was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon, and four pets also perished in the blaze.
The fire at 256 N. Winter St. (1580 West) was reported about 1:52 p.m. Salt Lake City Fire Department crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the three-bedroom home. The living room was fully engulfed in flames.
Salt Lake City Fire Assistant Battalion Chief Dennis McKone estimated the damage at $150,000.
The female owner of the home was at church when the fire erupted, he said. Two cats and two dogs died, but two other cats were unaccounted for, and it was hoped they survived the fire.
The woman is now staying with relatives, McKone said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
