I am currently a firefighter in the air force at little rock air force base. I am really looking into getting a job back home in st louis. I was wondering how often do the city test. I am about to go through the emt-b course and looking to go back and get my inspector 1 & 2 and fire officer 1 & 2. I was basicly wondering what or who I need to call to get all the info thanks alot.
Be safe

The "current" list was "supposed" to expire last month. They have not yet announced when we will be testing again. You can call the personnel dept. at (314) 622-4308. They SHOULD be able to tell you when we are testing again.
Also, You should occasionally check the city's web site http://stlouis.missouri.org/index.html. Look under "jobs with the city". They announce ALL job openings and testings there.
MOST people get on the job here by getting on another city dept. (forrestry, water dept., etc). City employees get priority hiring after 6 months. I was one of the few who got in on my own. If you have your Missouri FF I/II, HazMat awarness & Ops, and National Registry EMT ahead of time...it's a heavy burden off your shoulders once you're in the academy.
Anything else I can help ya with...just holler...
good luck,

thanks
Thanks for the info
I was wondering if working in the alarm room in headquarters is considered a city job or do you still have to go through the academy. I'll most likely get my haz-mat ops and high angle or confined space certs. I still got two years left but if I get a job with the city then I will apply for my early out paperwork. I mean the military is a great job and I love it here but it nothing to do. (mabye 2 fires a year) Plus they are cutting about 20,000 jobs this year so I rather have a plan before I get forced out with no plan.

It is considered a city job, BUT you still have to go through the fire academy. I had lots of guys from city EMS (under the fire dept) and the Fire Alarm Office. To transfer into suppression, you must go through the 13 week academy.

Ya, USUALLY you have to be affiliated and/or sponsored by a FD to get your FF I/II. Varies state to state.
Prior education/experience is always helpful.

I blieve you can attend the Fire Academy at Mineral Area College without a sponser department. They have a pretty good program there.

Rumor has it. The list has been extended, and another class will start after the current one graduates.
I say rumor because I've not seen/heard anything official.
However, I did hear this from one of the academy instructors and a chief officer. Take it for what it is worth.
