In your conformation letter you should have received information about the type of test.
Reading, math, psych..basic stuff I imagine

You can't always tell how someone is going to perform by how YOU think they look in a picture...Keep in mind that those geeky/wimpy people got hired, graduated, and are now in the field...and the people YOU will be working with...and depending on how long it takes you to accomplish that, the people you may be working FOR. Good luck in the process, and keep an open mind.

Photos don't always tell an accurate story. Firefighters are less and less "big and meatheaded" these days due to the high level of responsibility Firefighters now hold (rescue, medical, hazmat, etc). Also keep mind Fairfax requires their applicants to go through a six hour psychological review and examination, a 2-3 hour background check and polygraph with a police officer, and a 2 hour medical examination. Those "wimpy" Firefighters went through a lot to become a Fairfax County Firefighter. Another thing to keep in mind when you look at them...they have the career you want so I'd show a little more respect.

Default Train from NY to VA

I plan on taking Amtrak from NY this Friday for the test on Saturday. Does anyone know of any particular station that is close to the testing site? Thank you.

The written or CPAT testing site? Station 40 is actually not too far from both.

Jay... I did get your PM, but every time I tried to answer, it wouldn't let me. You should have grabbed me yesterday after my talk.

We will see you guys on Friday!

Thank you very much. I'll be there Saturday. Also, where is a cheap area to stay overnight in near the testing center. I'm driving from NJ so as long as its only like a 20-30 min drive thats fine. Any help is appreciated.

Also, how many people do they anticpate on taking this test?

I am actually taking a an Amtrak train into Alexandria from Penn Station. I really don't want to deal with rush hour traffic friday. I am actually staying at the Comfort Inn University Center in Fairfax (703) - 591 - 5900. If you tell them that you are there to take the test they will give you a discount. This hotel is only like 10 minutes from the testing site (approx 4.5 miles). Let me know if you book your stay here.

Passed my writted today with a score of 83. I cannot seem to break the a score of 90 on the I/O test. I just dont know what it is. CPAT is scheduled for 3/17/07. Will keep everyone informed.

i will also be there for the CPAT. The one thing I don't understand is how they go about hiring. Do they take your test score into consideration or is it you just have to pass and hope that you will be hired in the future?
