    Default Bingo

Well Malahat has officially been initiated to the world of Bingo. Actually it didnt go too badly. Spent most of the night passing out pull tab cards. (can't remember what you guys call 'em down here )

Was initiated to the point of one rather large gentleman who came up to me at the beginning of the night, looked me straight in the eyes and calmly told me that my shoes were untied. NO! I did not look down. At the end of the night he tried again, by quietly notifying me that my fly was down.... which it was not.... I did not check either.

Glad yours went better than mine did. The only bingo game I ever worked I was put up calling numbers. The second number I pulled I put in the wrong spot. I still to this day swear if they would have let the little old ladies get to me I wouldn’t be hear. The same sweet old ladies I helped park their cars had turned into an evil mob wanting my head. I hadn’t even go my hand off the ball when six or more perked up “you put it in the wrong spot what an idiot.”. After 5 min of rude comments another guy took over and the game continued with out incident. And does sound like you have a new friend. I’m sure he will continue to harass you for awhile lol.

Ya know..... I just knew someone was gonna make a comment like that

As it was, I think he was out with either Grandma, or Mom.... Not sure which she was, but her apparent age, could have been either. And since he was wearing a John Deere t-shirt, and listening to CD's from Brooks and Dunn........

When my son was in a parochial school, part of the "parental participation" requirement was to work a night of Bingo at the parish hall.

My wife and I flipped a coin to see who would have to do the duty... and I lost the coin toss.

Bingo night was hell. At that time, smoking was allowed in the building, and it seemed that every little blue haired lady in the place was a chain smoker. I should have brought a Scott 4.5 with me, it was that bad!

I had to sell the pull tab tickets. God forbid if you caused someone to miss one of the numbers....

Oh yes.... Or that you do not have the game type they want to play. "Red Hots" are a huge seller, as are "Pluckers". "Elvis" (can't remember the real name) didn't do quite so well, oddly enough. We had one lady come to the table and buy some, but not before she inquired as to whether we had "mixed" them up well. The answer my partner gave was only just p/c. The one I had in my mind was not. Just as well I stayed quiet. She had no sense of HA HA.

    Default Bing-freaking-O!

27, welcome to the enchanted world of Bingo! Before I worked my first Bingo I naively had a stereotype of nice little silver-haired women, tamely playing their cards, a world of peace and calm. And then I actually worked Bingo and found that I'd rather be on the projectile-vomiting/rectal bleed EMS call! Probably the most miserable and grumpy group of people I've ever come across. Cursed at, yelled at, given looks that would freeze water....

I know what Gonzo means about the fog, ours was the same way before smoking was outlawed. It would've taken big $$$ to get the place vented properly so we actually weren't too sad when the state lowered the boom on smoking in bingo halls.

As a matter of fact I have to work Bingo tonight....woo hoo!

I actually worked bingo and survived. Now we dont have it any more and I couldnt be happier. There are some fun stories from back when we did have bingo though, one of the typical phrases uttered by those silver haired women was "Shake your ba!!z!" so one day the caller did ... Needless to say he didnt get to call bingo any more.
Ah, I am so glad I dont have to do that any more.

BINGO is very popular down here, along with shuffleboard.

Well see! That's how to get out of having to work the darn thing. Actually it wasn't that bad really. I do have a bad experience from when I was a Cadet. We hosted only one bingo session (thankfully) and yes, I know the looks and the words. Last night was actually very peaceful (if I can use that word? LOL) Only one or two that kinda got a bit uppity, like the lady asking if we had mixed the cards well enough. Overall it did kinda change my misgivings somewhat. Of course this might have been the exception to the rule too. I know that I will get to find out!

Bingo is an institution in most of the UK, and is even played for sums of £100'000 and more. I defy anyone to foul up some little old ladies chances of winning that much. You may never see the light o day again...

Well, 27, you can gladly take my place once a month...

I had to wipe off the tomatos, grapes, eggs, chicken wings, etc. off my smokey self last night after not hearing "BINGO" on the evening's final jackpot. Then when I called the "next" number....boy did I get it. But honestly, I got more dirty looks, groans, and smack from our admin folks (dare I say "Bingo Nazis?" ) than I did the players for not hearing the "Bingo."

You'd handle the folks a lot better than I do, so "come on down!"

You can stick to call'n numbers, I'll stick to walk'n the floor. I might do 300 laps in an evening, but at least (well so far anyhow) I only got dirty looks when I didnt have the "correct" pull-tabs in my pocket. We had one set of tabs that were only sold at the table, so that meant that folks had to actually get up of their collective bee-hinds and walk to the table.

And besides, if he/she dont speak up loud enough, how ya gonna hear'm anyhow?
