Okay, silly question. Anyone have any ideas on when the 2006 AFG Program Guidance will be coming out? I can't remember last year's timeline. Would it be safe to use the 2005 guidance to get started on this year's project? Are any big changes expected? Any wisdom would be appreciated. I very much dislike waiting to the last minute and I know I read somewhere that some of the gurus have already done their narratives for the coming program. The powers that be here in our department have decided to go ahead and resubmit the same project as from last year ... SCBA. THANK YOU!

Rest assured....
This subject has come up before. The consensus guess is that the 2006 guidance document will come out in February. The consensus continues to believe that there will be no significant changes to the application and that getting started early is definetly a great idea.

The biggest changes will be in the Regional Grants.

A few other minor changes are in the PG also. It is reportedly in final review and should be out around Feb 1st, next week. Last year it didn't come out until late Feb.

I'm going to a workshop tomorrow night, might be able to shed some light on the subject after that.

just got back from workshop
ok...so here is the hot scoop.
Program Guidance is due out any second now, Regional reps have rough draft of the 44 page document .
Regional apps have changed a bit; the population figures are based on entire area covered by app. not just host town.
Host town can not also do it's own AFG grant, and those towns applying for regional grant; can not apply for same thing being asked for under regional app.
Some good discussion about how narrative should be written, as well as some insight into why apps. are not making into peer review, as well as how the scoring process and program guidance are linked.
If anyone has specific questions post away and I will let you know if it was covered today.

2006 Applicant Workshop Presentation Available
Gentlemen:
Start your Engines...
The 2006 Applicant Workshop Presentation is now available on www.firegrantsupport.com. You do have to have PowerPoint to view it, however. It plainly tells you just how to do the narrative catagories. You simply have to have the humility to follow orders. Not so easy for some of us, it seems. Oh well.

The workshop this year gives some very good points on what to include in the narrative and in what order. Not a lot of changes in the basic program. One is that the limit on number of thermal imagers is gone but you have to be reasonable in the request. Download the powerpoint and live by it. Some good information in it.
The program guidance will be out "any day after today".Jack Boczek, Chief

One thing to keep in mind also this year folks, less money! Your applciation will be in very heavy compettition. Better follow those rules closely and dot your "Is" and cross the "Ts".
