Shoreditch flat blaze

Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Myrtle Street in Shoreditch yesterday afternoon. The fire damaged part of the five-roomed flat on the third floor. Two adults and three children were rescued uninjured from the back bedroom by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

The Brigade was called at 1426 and the fire was under control by 1450. Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters from Shoreditch, Kingsland and Islington fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation by police and fire officers.

1896 - Dexter - ME - Dexter National Bank, 3 story brick building and adjoining 3 story Western Union building destroyed by fire - $40,000 loss *bg*

1900 - Canterbury - NH - Shaker Village - Large barn in Middle Family division destroyed by fire - 35 head of cattle loss along with much valuable machinery - $20,000 loss

1949 - Williston - VT - Williston Academy (then used as Village School) burned to ground

1962 - Hampton - NH - Ocean Blvd - Allen's Hotel - Heavy fire rear of building top two floors

1977 - New Bedford - MA - General Alarm - Union Street / Johnny Cake Hill - Gas explosions with ravaging fire - Macamber-Silvia Bldg, O'Mailley's Tavern and Union Tobacco Company destroyed *ws*

1982 - Sanbornton - NH - Earthquake 4.5 Richter Scale - Felt in Nashua

1985 - Manchester - VT - Equinox House - Very large wooden Resort Inn - Was closed for 10 years and had just completed renovation - Gas explosion and fire that destroyed the south wing of the historic inn - Flames 60 feet high, destroyed 70 rooms of the 148 rooms - Fire started when a propane tank was damaged during installation - Leaking gas ignited and fire was sprayed into the structure.

1998 - Bernardston - MA - 3rd Alarm - 9 Gill Road - 5 towns Mutual Aid
