Where does one buy the sledge hammer prop used by so many fire departments for testing??

If it is the same 9# shot hammer that is used in the Combat Challenge, try www.firefighter-challenge.com. Click on store and scroll down. You will find it there for about $100.

Sorry, I should have clarified more, what I am looking for is the prop that you are actually stricking that you slide the block across, or the spring loaded impact plate that indicates when enough force is used.

Opps... You Sir are correct. I should have looked a little more closely.

Holy crap that thing is expensive. That is definitely outside the budget of what I had in mind. Anybody have any options for lower cost alternatives?

When I was practicing I would go out and hit a dead tree, find a good solid one make sure there aren't any widow makers above you and draw a target then go to town. It is not perfect but it really helped me with my form.

Sledge hammer and rail-road ties. (sp?)
The weight of those big pieces of wood makes nice resistance!

Do you mean the one used in the CPAT? Try a stack of big truck tires backed against a utility pole. Paint a target and start swinging. Good for working on form, since the tires sound louder when you are hitting it right. Also since it's springy, it doesn't tear your arms up as much as a dead tree (I tried that too).

I agree. We use tires for practice. It works well just focus on form and aim.
