Default ? on left over funds

We have $61 leftover after purchasing all of our equipment that we applied for. My question, is do we have to ask for an amendment to spend the $61 on an extra item that we requested, such as a couple of extra pair of gloves, or can we just go ahead and purchase them?

I just want to get this grant closed out so we can get started on the 06 grant cycle.

I would just go ahead and buy them and send a note to your FPS at FEMA regional. What is the worst that could happen, they come back and say you can't do that and want you to give it back to them? NOT!

You will probabaly not find a grnat to get the "home gym". Although the AFGP allows "fitness and wellness" activities you must have an existing medical physical and immunizations program going first beofre they would even consider putting finess equipment into your station. You would also have to have an "incentive" program or a "mandatory participation" clause to get that funded. Best thing you could do is conduct a fundraiser and then buy it with the proceeds.Less work and a lot quicker and no paperwork, and as an added bonus it is something that DHS likes to see FDs doing when they are considering you for a grant. if you are looing for a good site to get eicated on grnats and find opportunities you shold check my website at www.chiefgrants.com

There are THREE components to what the AFG considers an allowable Wellness & Fitness program: Fitness/Exercise aspect, Entry Level Physicals (and on-going yearly or periodic physicals), and Immunizations. If you don't have this in place currently, you can write a successful grant for a Wellness & Fitness Program BUT All THREE aspects need to be covered in order to be competitive.

Some things to consider: ways to offer incentives to your FFs for working out - getting local businesses on board to offer discount cards, coupons, even last years guideline suggested t-shirts, hats, etc. (and you can include a small amount in the grant for things like that - movie passes, etc. - rewards). Remember, you are trying to promote wellness & fitness here. If you're looking at an ALL-INCLUSIVE HEALTH program and get someone like your local hospital or Medical Park or Dr's office/Home Health, etc. to partner after A RISK ASSESSMENT was conducted, and you have a total program...it's just a better thought out project.

You're trying to reduce heart attacks, fatigue, etc. So, do some research on Firehouse.com and other sites to compile data that is out there on the percentage of FFs that die or are injured from cardiac arrest . It's available, you just can't wait until the week before the grant period closes.

Or if you're goal is just a treadmill or weight machine, then go on down to your local Wal-mart or K-Mart like Kurt suggested and see if they'll donate it. Or maybe one of the members has a used Nordic-trac or exercise bike...

    Depends on your goal.
