There is nothing worse than working in a station that has house bells that put you into a shockable heart rhythm everytime you get a call. We have one such station at my department. Everytime we get a call the house bells, which aren't bells at all, go off. It sounds like a electronic klaxion, submarine dive alarm, or somthing from a sci-fi space ship. Does anyone have any information or know of any studies pertaining to the preservation of our firefighters health and "sanity" when it comes to house bells? We would like to get the house alarm changed but to get anything done around here, like any other fire department, it takes either an act of congress...or cold hard facts.
