I am in the air force reserves and my base gave me a leave of absence. I am up at in iraq with a retired air force cheif and he was telling me I still can work on my cdcs while I am here, so that works out for me.Yes you will still have to go through nbc training, it is a annual deal.

    Default stuff

You are allowed two checked bags @ 50lbs, plus one extra (nbc bag). If you think you can live without it for a while, don't take it! You will get the physical and vaccination info in your second packet.

I am a Female firefighter as a civilian before the Marine Corp. Three point 5 yrs ago I joined the Marine Corp! I currently have 6 more months left. I am about to start this process. I was stationed at TQ for 11.5 months and have many friends there still on TQ Fire . I returned here to NC in Jan. Any extra tips on where and what bases females end up with. I have all my certifications printed from the state of Michigan but not quite sure what IfSAC certs are??

    Marine 777,
Welcome to the forums Devildog. I am a Reserve 7051 from Michigan, as well as a career civilian firefighter. Your Michigan FF certs mean nothing to WSI. IFSAC is an organization that accredits firefighter training, and Michigan is not a member. You will have to go to an IFSAC accredited academy and challenge the FF I and II and Hazmat Ops to get the correct certs. I took mine at the Bucks County academy in PA. There are many others on this thread who have done it and have explained the process in earlier posts. NC is also an IFSAC state, you may want to look into getting it done while you're still on active duty. If I remember correctly, Coastal Carolina Community College gives free fire and EMT classes for active duty military.

    muellerjja,
I know of at least 6 Marine reservists who have gotten leaves to go to Iraq with WSI, as well as others who have gone with Blackwater and Wolfpack. Basically you have to get command approval and tack an extra year onto the end of your contract. Check with your unit career planner/retention specialist/or whatever you squids call them.

    marine 777 & gunnyv -

It surprises me that the Marine Corps is not into the DoD cert program. I remember a few years ago when the Navy was the same way.

Marine 777, just like gunnyv has stated check with a few IFSAC approved colleges/schools to get your certs.

    Lightbulb Information

As far as bases with Females we currently have females at Camp Victory/Liberty, Camp Taji, Al Asad Air Base, and Camp Speicher. Hope this helps if you have anyfurther questions fire them off. Also FYI if your not familiar with the thread Info on Iraq you should check it out.. Most of the necessary information regarding employment with WSI is discussed in that thread, as well as duty here in the desert.

The Corps is on board with the cert program-the problems are with some of us in non-IFSAC states getting credit for training recieved outside of military schooling. For example, I lat moved and, with 10 years as a career FF, did not want to spend 3 months at Goodfellow. Since my training was through a non-IFSAC entity, I had to challenge my way out somewhere else.

The Corps is still behind on the Fire Officer and higher level certs, but we're working on it.
