I am currently in school for fire science, and will be done this summer with an aa degree. I have a question about my dark past... I have an OWI/DWI charge on my record, and I was wondering if this would automatically disqualify me for the AF? I have the Reserve recruiter calling me, but I feel like the AF is more appealing to me from what I have been reading here, and also what I have heard from friends. So, would this OWI charge cause me to not be able to join the AF? Thanks, James.

I don't know for sure but my best advice is ask your recruiter...I know that a posession charge will disqualify you but i'm not sure about a DWI

Thanks for the Reply. I don't have any possesion charges...thank god, but I do have the OWI. The OWI charge was deffered, and I actually did everything to get it taken off my record, so technically its not an OWI, but they can see that I had one on my record. Basically, they gave me an OWI and said if I do everything that they tell me to, and pay all my fines they would take it off my record. This was one year ago, but I have changed quite a bit from then, but obviously they have no way of telling that. Thanks, James.

Ok, I finally talked to a recruiter, and found out that they couldn't even find anything about my OWI. This is awesome. She said that even if it was on my record that I could still probably get in with it. Thanks.
