Battersea – smoke alarm alerts residents

Two men and a woman managed to escape from a fire which started in a shop on Northcote Road in Battersea this morning. Battersea fire station Watch Manager Kim Taylor said: “The fire started in the early hours of this morning when most people are asleep and began to spread into the flats above, if it hadn’t been for a working smoke alarm sounding in the property this could have been a much more serious incident. When we arrived all three people living in the flats above the shop were safely outside.” Crews worked quickly and managed to save most of the ground floor and limit the damage to the properties above. The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault. The Brigade was called at 0437 and the fire was under control by 0601. Crews from Battersea, Tooting and Wandsworth attended the incident.

Tottenham – house blaze
Fire crews worked quickly to stop a fire from spreading throughout a two storey house on Scales Road in Tottenham yesterday afternoon. The ground floor was completely gutted during the incident, but crews wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control, limiting the damage caused to the first floor. Nobody was injured during the incident. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Brigade was called at 1337 and the fire was under control by 1411. Crews from Tottenham and Walthamstow.

TRAFFIC COLLISION - LAFD INVOLVED WITH INJURIES
W. WASHINGTON BL & S. JASMINE AV (CULVER CITY)
DATE: 02-12-06
TIEM: 10:36 AM
INCIDENT#: 402

UPDATE - 02-13-06

TRAFFIC COLLISION: LAFD INVOLVED WITH INJURIES

On Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 10:36 AM, five Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, five LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one Heavy Rescue, three EMS Battalion Captains, one Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, one Division Chief Officer Command Team, under the direction of Battalion Chief Fred J. Mathis, responded to a Traffic Collision involving an LAFD Rescue Ambulance with a report of one person trapped, at West Washington Boulevard and South Jasmine Avenue in the Palms/Cheviot Hills (in Culver City) area.

First units on the scene reported that LAFD Rescue Ambulance 63 had collided with a small passenger vehicle with the driver trapped and both Firefighter/Paramedics injured. The two Firefighter/Paramedics suffered back and neck injuries and were treated and transported to a local hospital in good condition. The driver of the passenger car was extricated, treated, and transported to a local hospital with
non-serious back and neck injuries.

Initial reports indicate that LAFD Rescue Ambulance 63 was traveling East Bound on Washington Boulevard with all warning lights and siren activated while transporting a patient to a nearby hospital when the passenger car abruptly turned left in front of the Ambulance causing the collision. The patient in the Ambulance was uninjured.

Additional information involving this incident will be released when the investigation is completed. The Los Angeles Fire Department and the Culver City Police Department are investigating the exact cause of the collision.

LOS ANGELES, CA:

Bomb Incident
W/B 210 Freeway and Roxford St.
Sylmar/Olive View
Monday, February 13, 2006
TIME: 3:50 PM
INCIDENT #: 0738

REPORTED 500 POUND BOMB CLOSES FREEWAY

On Monday, February 13, 2006 at 3:50 PM, seven Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one Rehab Unit, three EMS Battalion Captains, two Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams, one Division Chief Officer Command Team, one Mobile Command Post, and various other support staff, all under the direction of Battalion Chief Michael Bowman responded to a reported Bomb Incident on the West Bound 210 Freeway at Roxford St. in Sylmar/Olive View. Firefighters were called to investigate a reported "500 Pound, Military Style, Aerial Bomb" which had fallen off of a truck and landed on the right side of the freeway, according to witnesses. Upon arrival, Battalion Commander Michael Bowman immediately recognized the need for a professional evaluation of the suspicious object and requested the LAPD Bomb Squad for assistance. LAPD, in an effort to provide for the safety of the public, closed down the freeway and diverted traffic around the incident.

During the evaluation of the suspected bomb, Fire Department incident commanders established evacuation areas and treatment plans. In addition, Fire Department resources were pre-deployed into surrounding areas for strategic use should the need arise. Olive View Hospital, which is located less than a half mile away, was closed to all ambulance transports until the incident was stabilized. LAPD Bomb Squad members evaluated the object, however, they were unable to positively determine that the object was not hazardous. Military officials from the Point Magu Navel Air Weapons Station were requested to evaluate the object and assist with it's safe disposal. After careful evaluation and assessment of the situation, military officials were able to determined that the device did not pose an immediate danger to the public. Military officials, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department, handled the removal and disposal of the object. No injuries or damage was reported. The incident remains under investigation by Law Enforcement authorities. The incident was mitigated in slightly less than five hours.

LA. Serious Apparatus Crash

A New Orleans FD engine company responding to a trash fire inside a building, struck a car injuring 3 people including a teenage boy who was listed in critical condition as of Saturday evening. The crash occurred around 1100 hours when the apparatus hit the car carrying two teenage boys. After the collision, the apparatus dragged the car against two parked cars.

The driver of the car apparently was trying to turn left from Walmsley Avenue onto South Carrollton, NOFD spokesman Roman Nelson said. The traffic light at the intersection was not working after the crash, but there were conflicting reports as to whether it was working before the wreck, Nelson said. He said there were no stop signs at the intersection. One teen was outside the car talking after the wreck, but the other had to be removed with power equipment. Nelson said a firefighter suffered a back injury. He said one teen was treated and released, and the other teen and the firefighter were taken to Ochsner Hospital, where the teen underwent surgery. A rep from Ochsner said the teen was in critical condition in an intensive care unit, and the firefighter was treated and released.

Nelson said the pumper, which was staffed by 4 firefighters, was on its way to a trash fire on the ground floor of a building. The apparatus had its warning lights and siren on, Nelson said. The injured firefighter was a rear passenger on the engine company.
