Default For you NY folk, especially LI'ers

I got this in an email tonight from my cousin (a Li'er, transplanted to MA). I was not born in, nor have ever lived in NY...But having it in my blood (mom's side of the family is from LI/Astoria) I got quite a chuckle out of it...

    Subject: Long Island

You live in the shadow of the greatest city in the world, but you almost never go there.

When you're away from Long Island, you love it and when you're there, you don't.

You know the exact point at which Queens turns into Nassau simply on intuition.

You don't go to Manhattan, you go to "The City".

You never realize you have an accent till you leave.

Either your parents or your grandparents lived in the city.

You don't live in Long Island. You live ON Long Island

You know where the Commack Motor Inn is.

Your distant future might involve the state of Florida.

You can correctly pronounce places like Happauge, Commack, Islip, Islandia, Massapequa.

You know the location of 6 malls and a dozen McDonalds and 36 7-11's.

You never, ever want to "change at Jamaica..."

You've tried to find the Amityville Horror house.

You've had a seagull crap on your car.

You have or someone you know has fallen asleep on the LIRR and ended up in one of these three places; Babylon, Port Washington or Hicksville.

You went to an elementary school that promoted dodge ball as the number 1 game among children 7-13.

You know White Castle is terrible for you but you periodically "Get the Crave".

You've missed that "Drunk Train", the 2:42 out of Penn and had the dreaded wait until 5:30.

You or someone you know has owned an animal that came from North Shore Animal League.

Quick! Who's the Suffolk County Executive? Don't know do you?!

You've never taken an MTA bus.

The Long Island Expressway isn't really as bad as everybody thinks.

You don't associate Fire Island with gay men.

You know which parts of the Godfather were filmed on Long Island.

You've paid a $10 cover charge to get into a bar, but got nothing for it.

You miss wiffle Ball and running through sprinklers.

Billy Joel said it best, "either you date a rich girl from the North Shore, or a cool girl from the South Shore".

You don't really see the big deal about the Hamptons, unless you got smashed at the Bordy barn.

When people ask "where are you from?" you answer Long Guy Land and automatically assume everyone in the world knows that answer means New York.

You've always liked Billy Joel and you own several of his "records"

    The Belt Parkway sucks!

Your parents took you to Nathan's or Carvel (on the way home from the beach).

    You hate paying tolls.

You don't have to go far to see your family.

    You remember Grumman

You've gotten drunk on the bleachers of some high school

You know the color of the water at Jones Beach was not BLUE!

You were upset when all the Roy Rogers turned into Wendy's.

You can spout off all the LIRR stops between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma

You think the people from Brooklyn are "da wunz dat tawk wit a accent"

    Sledding in the sumps

You knew of Massapequa before the Amy Fisher-Joey Buttafuoco nightmare

You thought going to Queens was a hike

The first time you heard the term "Long Island Iced Tea" you were somewhere else and you laughed.

When you live somewhere else and are astounded to see that people actually stop at yellow lights.

When you just sort of presume that wherever you live, you'll be able to find good delis, good pizza, and good bagels.

You can name at least three bands that came from Long Island.

No word ends in an ER, just an AH.

I have lost my mind..has anyone seen it? it's not worth much..but it's mine

Astoria is NOT Long Island...it's Queens

    Subject: Long Island

You know the Coliseum isn't really a temple.

No, you don't want mustard on that burger!

You consider nachos and cheese at the Coliseum to be a suitable dinner date.

    You've cruised the Pike.

You grew up thinking Chinese food was a basic food group.

You walk around the mall aimlessly.

If you can afford a home you own 2 cars.

You know the Islanders won 4 Stanley Cups in a row and the Rangers still SUCK.

You know the Ducks are a Baseball team.

You can order a pizza and a soda and people will understand.

You know the difference between Levittown and Hicksville.

There is always a party on the South Shore.

You know where the OBI was, and you miss it!

You or your neighbor currently owns or owned a boat.

You know White Castle is terrible for you and the food sucks. But, you periodically "Get the Crave".

In the summer you don't goto Jones Beach you goto Long Beach, Gilgo, Cedar and Bar Beach.

I have a hundred more....I am one Long Islander that will never move off My Island.

I know Astoria isn't ON the Island...I should have been clearer...The family started out in Astoria, then they moved to Long Island, with some moving up to MA

    Couple more...
Belmont is better than "that place up in Yonkers"

You know how to time the lights on Jericho Turnpike so you don't hit (many) red lights.

You know that Mike Bossie was THE BEST hockey player ever...and the Rangers still suck.

Wow, from the time I was a kid I always thought my family moved from Queens to Long Island. Guess I was wrong.

You know the exact point at which Queens turns into Nassau simply on intuition.
Not if your traveling on Hempstead Tpke EB from Queens over the Cross Island.

I am one Long Islander that will never move off My Island.
Me too, even with all my bellyaching about the high cost of living. Nothing like LB in the summer and a short 17 mile commute to the City.

And another +, there's lots of water separating us from Jersey .

    Stay Safe

You know you're an OLD long Islander if:

You saw bands at "My Father's Place"

You went to "The Sunset Series"

Went to the "Hook" on your first date

    Got Sicilian slices from Frank's

Tied one on at OBI East

Rented a place on West Tianna Road

Caught a flick and a feel at Westbury Drive In

Made Apple Pies with Vodka and Jericho Cider

Saw Woodstock II at Sunset Downs

    Saw The Good Rats

    Ate at American Burger

Attended 100+ pool partys while the folks were gone.
